Chapter 23
Falling asleep was usually a trial, but the back seat of the SUV was actually quite comfortable. Before Sierma knew it, the dozed off.
It didn’t last though. Voices outside of the vehicle woke her. She checked the position of the moon and figured she’d only been out for about an hour. Groggy, she tried to tune in to what was being said and who was saying it. The voices were familie, but it took her a moment to place
and–link and hope he comes out,” a female voice was saying.
Lan’t believe you’re just going to send ham a mind-|

Sylvia, Senna thought. Those girls from the ballroom. They were back. From the sound of things, they were up to no grond. That was no surprise to Sienna. These girls were every bit as much trouble as the girls Jenna hung around with back at home.
As if she had somehow summoned the woman, Sienna heard another voice join the conversation.
“What are you girls doing out here?” It was Jenna! She sounded friendly and fun, the way she did when she was talking to her friends or a guy she liked
“Oh, hey, Sylvia said. Sienna knew her voice well enough by now. “You’re Alpha Kent’s daughter, aren’t your
I’m Jenna Bark”
“Nice to meet you. Sylvia Waters. My mom is.. pretty important too” She sounded like a snob, which was also no surprise. Sylvia rattled off the names of three other girls, and Jenna said hi to them before Sylvia asked, “What are you up to out here at this time of night?”
“Ugh I just came to check on my stupid servant girl,” Jenna replied, “I kicked her out of the house a while ago, but I wanted to make sure she did what I said for once. She’s such a little bich”
Sanna raised her head slightly to look out the window to see exactly how far away from the SUV they were standing. They were on the sidewalk outside of Alpha Kaden’s house about ten yards away from the SUV. Anyone inside of the vehicle would be able to hear her talking, not that it mattered to Jenna whether or not Sienna heard her insults. Still, it was like she didn’t realize that Sienna was listening.
“Oh my Goddess! That brown–haired, stinky girl with the giant eyes?” Sylvia screeched. “She works for you! I think I saw her fall out of your truck
earlier”
“Yes. That’s my little helper,” Jenna said as if she had been cursed. “She’s just awful. What happened to your hand anyway?”
“She happened to my hand.” Sylvia said. Sienna had to cover her mouth to keep from giggling Jenna would be furious to know she’d defended herself if she even believed what Sylvia was about to tell her. “That b*tch grabbed my finger and practically ripped it off just because I asked her if she was having a good day!”
Sienna’s eyes doubled as she thought about the lies that Sybia was telling, but there was no way she could defend herself without making it worse, so she kept her mouth shut
“Seriously?” Jenna replied. “I ought to snap her finger right off! I’m so sorry she did that to you! She will pay for it, believe me.”
“Thank you.” Sylvia said in a sincere voice. “Gosh, it must be just awful having to put up with her.”
“It is terrible, but I’ve learned to cope over the years,” Jenna said, getting some sympathetic sounds out of the others. “You should’ve seen what she did at dinner! She cracked the lobster open so that it went right into my eyel I could’ve been blinded!”
“You poor dear,” one of the other girls said.
“Yes, well, ruturally, I screamed. As anyour would. Hut Luna Hannah stood up for her. I don’t quite understand your Luna. She keeps making it seems like I am mistreating laer. It’s like she doesn’t even see the torture I endure just being near that girl”
“Luna Hannah is diferent,” Sylvia said: “Beta Alec has been acting weird around that girl ton”
“Yes” Jenna exclaimed. “I’ve seen that too! It’s like she’s a witch and cast a spell on them!”
Again, Sienna wanted to laugh. If that were a possibility, she certainly wouldn’t be in the position she was in at the moment.
“Anyway, I’m going to love to do something to pay her back for all of this,” Jenna continued. “She can’t honestly think it’s okay for us to visit another pack and for her to act this way?
“I have an idea” Sylvia’s voice was a purr. “You know, if Hannali likes her so much, why don’t you invite her to the ball!”
“What?” Jenna asked, appalled “And give Alpha Kaden aber reason to stare at her? Seriously, if I didn’t know better, I’d think something was going on with him too. Maybe he’s under her win l’a gell”

“Oh we could spill panch all over her!” another gul chimed in
“And I could volunteer to do her makeup and make her look even more garish than usual” Sylvia said.
laughter rang out causing the other guls to join in Sienna held her breath, afraid she’ll make a noise and these geniuses would remember she was right there and could hear them. While it was a horribs plan, something that made her think about running away again, at least she knew what they were planning so she could try to avoid all of the embarrassing bits. Something told her that Jenna would find a way to humiliate
it was coming or not
But then wasn’t like there was anyone here she needed to impress. The fact that Jenna thought Kaden was staring at her was comical. If he was, it
uld glare at her and wish she had never been born.
“Ladies, this is a perfect plan” Jenna said “I love it I’m so glad I ran into you. What are you guys doing out here anyway?”
just wanted to check with Kaden to see how the dinner went, but he must be busy Sylvia said. Sienna took that to mean he hadn’t responded to her mind–link message, which made her want to laugh. He probably didn’t want to put up with any more girl drama after the day he’d
“He went to his room.” Jenna offered. “I was really hoping to have a chance to talk to him, but he disappeared. Do you think, at the dance, he might find his fated much” She said it like she thought it might be her. Sienna had an answer for her, one she didn’t want to hear
“That would be magical” Sylvia said. Her tone conveyed she wished it would be her.
Jenna seemed to realize that the girl she was talking to should be perceived as the enemy, someone also after Alpha Kaden. “Well, I’ll see you guys later. I’m just gonna check on my brich”
“Take care.” Sylvia said, and then they all walked away
Sienna was lying perfectly still, eyes closed, in the back seat, trying to pretend like she was asleep She could sense Jenna’s eyes peering at her through the glass. It was hard to lay so still without moving or blinking. After about five minutes, she felt like she was alone. Faint footsteps echoed away from the vehicle. Cracking open an eye, Sienna peered through her eyelashes to see Jenna leaving
She opened her eyes and rolled onto her back. There was so much to think about, so much to consider. Those girls were going to do anything they to humiliate her at the ball, and shances were, they’d be successful because they were skilled at hurting other people. Whether or not she

to get out of it or just grit her teeth and get through it, she couldn’t say. Whatever they had up their sleeves, chances were, she’id
Then there was the idea that Kaden had been looking at her enough that Jenna had noticed. Sienna realized that she was not Cinderella. This was real hide, not a fairy tale. In the back of her mind, the had to wonder what it might be like if Alpha Kaden didn’t reject her. What if he decided he wanted to make her his Luna after all Whale Senna wasn’t interested in having power or money, two things she’d always assumed she’d never had she did like the idea of bring in a position where she could help other people Like Luna Hannah, she wanted to notice the overlooked and help them to be more comfortable, to be happy, to know they were loved and cared about
But all of these thoughts were a silly waste of time. Kaden would never accept her as hus Luna, so she might as well put those thoughts out of her
mind forever.
