Layla was assertive, but Samuel was even more so.
“So the Lorimer family’s maternal relatives can act lawlessly? She bullied my sister! I must seek revenge!”
“Your sister? You mean Raylee?”
“You’re from the Lorimer family. Haven’t you heard about my sister’s situation?” With a light huff, Samuel sarcastically continued. “Right, after you got married, you settled abroad and ignored everything and everyone back home, including me.”

Layla’s emotions became incredibly complicated. After a moment, she let out a
“I only returned to the country recently, and I’ve heard a few things about your sister. Samuel, I’m sorry. Back then, my family arranged the marriage alliance for me. I didn’t have a choice.”
“Let’s not talk about the past,” Samuel said, his tone indifferent.
Layla gave a nod. “All right, I won’t bring it up again. As for today’s matter, please do me a favor and refrain from acting impulsively. Back then, because of a single necklace, Tiffany caused your sister to spend four years in prison. Wanda is a relative from Tiffany’s mother’s side. Do you think they would let you off easily if you end up killing her today?”
Samuel fell silent.

He couldn’t dare to imagine her days spent there.
When she returned to Jexburgh, she probably thought the Goodridge family would come to her rescue.

Yet, what was the outcome?
Because of her slight temper, he had kicked her out of the car, causing her already impaired leg to be injured again.
Because he had trusted the words of Waverly and Mindy, he mistakenly believed that she had pushed Waverly down the stairs, and he had lashed out at her with harsh words.
He was consumed by a profound sense of guilt.

Samuel stared blankly at the necklace, a profound sense of fear gripping his heart.

That night, Raylee received a call from Harriet and learned that Samuel had done something truly earth–shattering.
“Ray–Ray, come back quick. Your dad has something to tell you.”
“What a coincidence. I also have something to say to you all.”
When Raylee returned to the Goodridge residence, everyone was gathered in the living room.
No one spoke. Every face was devoid of expression, casting an unusually solemn atmosphere.
Upon her entrance, it was as if Alaric was performing a play. He abruptly slapped Samuel across the face and berated angrily. “You ungrateful child, you even dared to offend the Lorimer family? Do you want our whole family to pay the price for your actions?”
Samuel, nursing his swollen face, remained defiantly silent.
“Dad, don’t punish Samuel! He’s innocent. If it weren’t for Raylee’s sake, he wouldn’t have crossed the Lorimer family…
Tears streaming down her face, Waverly flung herself onto Samuel.
With just one sentence, she had successfully drawn the fire toward Raylee.
Raylee genuinely experienced what it felt like to be inadvertently caught in a crossfire.

Alaric was feeling utterly helpless. He let out a deep sigh before turning his gaze toward Raylee, his tone carrying a hint of reprimand as he said. “You’re back, Ray–Ray? Why is it that as soon as you return, your brother ends up causing trouble for you?”
For a moment, Raylee was lost for words. Then, she finally spoke. “May I ask, what did I do? Was it me who told him to beat up a maternal relative of the Lorimer family? Mr. Alaric, could it be that you’re planning to distort the truth about me again, just like you did four years ago?”
“What did you just call me? Mr. Alaric? You don’t even call me ‘Dad‘ anymore. After spending years in jail, have you forgotten basic manners?” Alaric said unhappily.
Raylee didn’t respond to the question. He should know the answer to why she didn’t call him “Dad” better than anyone else!
With a stiff expression, Samuel pleaded on her behalf. “Dad, this has absolutely nothing to do with Ray–Ray. If you have to blame someone, just blame me!”
“Shut up!” Alaric snapped irritably.
“If the Lo
Lorimer family truly decides to blame you, I would risk my life to save you. After all, you’re my only son, aren’t you?”
The implication was clear – if something were to happen to Samuel, Alaric would rather die than not protect him.
Waverly willingly stepped forward and spoke. “Dad, I won’t let anything happen to you. If the Lorimer family really blames us, then let me take the fall!”
“No, you both can’t get into trouble. You two are my only children. If anything were to happen to either of you, I couldn’t bear to live!” Harriet exclaimed with teary eyes.
Samuel was the only son of the Goodridge family, while Waverly was the legitimate daughter. Neither of them could afford to get into trouble.
In that case, who was the most suitable one to take the blame
Alaric and Harriet simultaneously turned their gazes toward Raylee.
With just one look, it became crystal clear to Raylee.
