Olivia, meeting Lily’s gaze, couldn’t hold back a smirk. “I’m just speaking the truth! And don’t lay all the blame on me. If they want to get engaged, they’ll do it regardless. I returned to the country, and suddenly, it’s all my fault? Am I expected to permit Nathan to propose?”
Her sarcasm dripped from every word as she added, “Does Nathan need my blessing to proceed with his engagement?”

Lily was left speechless, her eyes burning with fury as she glared at Olivia, wishing she could tear her apart.
Meanwhile, King and Lucas observed the unfolding confrontation with furrowed brows.
“Who are they?” King demanded, his displeasure evident in his tone as he turned to Lucas for answers.
Lucas responded, “Who else could it be but the matriarch of the Carter family? And those three beside her are from the Patel family. The two families are arranging a marriage… Look at their aggressive demeanor, they’re acting like shrews! How disgraceful!”
King’s expression turned chilly.
These were the individuals who nearly drove Olivia to her demise years ago…
His countenance darkened suddenly, his tone icy, “So this is the caliber of Emberfall’s upper–class society? Quite revealing.”
Lucas’s face stiffened. “It’s not all like that… King, you can’t judge everyone by the same measure. I, too, belong to the upper class.”
“Oh, perhaps you’re an exception,” King replied calmly.
Their conversation wasn’t exactly discreet, and those nearby could hear clearly.
Emily’s expression soured further.
Lily’s displeasure was palpable, her eyes flashing with malice. She intentionally raised her voice, addressing Olivia, “Olivia, you seem to have a knack for attracting men. Flirting here and there, yet still holding onto Nathan… Even after the DNA test results for the child have been revealed, you continue to pester him like this. Is your sole interest marrying into wealth?”
“But have you ever reflected on yourself? Your parents played a part in Nathan losing his father back then, and now you have the nerve to involve him with the child! Are you even worthy of such audacity?”
Hearing this, Olivia fought the urge to burst into laughter.
