Soon, my bridal party arrived at the hotel. While I was getting ready, I checked my phone. As soon as I turned it on, I received a flood of messages.
The overwhelming majority of them came from Isaac.
“Vicky, pick up the phone, please?”
“I made a mistake, Vicky. Please come back to me. You can’t marry someone else!”
“I’m begging you, please! Come back. I can’t lose you…”
I had plenty of unanswered calls as well, and surprisingly, a few taunting messages from Jenny, too.
“Isaac and I will be getting married today, Victoria. He purposely lured you away because he’s scared you’ll cause a scene. If you have any self–respect at all, you should ask for a breakup. Stop clinging onto Isaac.

“The one who isn’t loved is the true third party in any relationship. Do you think Isaac hasn’t broken up with you because he loves you? No, he just pities you. He stopped loving you a long time ago.
“You’re old and not as young and pretty as I am. He only gets to feel how exciting life is when he’s with me. You’re just a dreary old hag. He says he can’t even stand the sight of you!”
I found Jenny’s attempts to provoke me rather childish.
It made me realize her supposedly loving relationship with Isaac wasn’t as strong as she wanted to make it seem. Otherwise, a true victor would simply celebrate from above instead of sending these seemingly taunting messages that reeked of insecurity.
It wasn’t Jenny’s first time attempting to provoke me. The last time she made such a blatant show of it was the last time I brought lunch to Isaac at this office.
When he first started working on his business, he missed his meals so much that he developed a gastric condition. Over the years, I did the best I could to prepare him meals that would help balance his digestive system again.
After Jenny became his secretary, she would also cook for him, under the guise of wanting to save time due to how busy work was.
She didn’t hide that from me either, saying, “I owe you and Mr. Emerson my life, Victoria. He works too hard. Since I’m his secretary, it’s also part of my duty to look out for his personal
needs.”
Once, Isaac and I had inadvertently helped Jenny out of a sticky situation. Ever since then, she kept calling us her saviors.
At the start, I felt uncomfortable about Jenny’s actions. It felt like she had crossed the line
