somehow. However, Isaac didn’t seem to care. He claimed he didn’t find anything wrong with her actions and even told me not to overthink it.
“Stop reading too much into it. She just wants to repay us. Since she made the food, I can’t possibly embarrass her by letting it go to waste. In any case, she’s half the cook you are. Trust me, Vicky. Don’t overthink things, okay?”
His words failed to assure me. Instead, I continued to feel uneasy.

Noticing this, Isaac immediately called Jenny into the office while I was still there. With his hand on my shoulder, he said to her, “From now on, you don’t have to prepare lunch especially for me anymore, Ms. Stone. You can just do your work. Vicky will take care of my meals for me.”
Instantly, Jenny’s eyes turned red. Looking like a misbehaving child, she stood there shakily, her tears threatening to spill over.
With her head hanging low, she apologized most earnestly, “I am truly sorry, Ms. Carter. I really only did it out of the gratitude I felt toward Mr. Emerson. I apologize if that has caused any misunderstandings.
“I’m so sorry. Feel free to beat me or lash out at me if you want. Please don’t be mad at Mr. Emerson because of me.”
Her attitude made me frown. I felt even more uncomfortable. But when I told Isaac that, he refuted me and said I was being paranoid.
“That’s enough. I’ve spoken to Ms. Stone and told her to stop bringing me food, so cheer up, Vicky.”
That stopped me from saying all the words I had yet to say.
Everything seemed to return to normal after that. Jenny no longer did anything that seemed to overstep her boundaries, and I slowly let my guard down, thinking that perhaps I had been too paranoid earlier on.
I even felt guilty for misunderstanding Jenny. To make it up to her, I would often remind Isaac to take good care of her at work.
This situation continued until the day I fell ill and had to stop delivering Isaac his meals.
