“So you’re staying here? Fine, I’ll leave,” Mirabel said as she stepped forward
Before she could take another step, Fraser’s calin voice stopped her. “Your friend Keely, and all your friends and mentors back home–if you disappear from my life again, I’ll make sure they have no place to stand, anywhere.”
Mirabel froze in place, her body stiffening. “…Fraser, don’t you think this is shameless?”
“I don’t want to do this,” Fraser said, cutting vegetables with practiced ease. Yet, for the first time, he accidentally cut his finger. Staring blankly at the blood for a moment, he added, “But it’s the most effective way, isn’t it?”
Mirabel didn’t respond, and the large villa fell into a suffocating silence.
Fraser quickly prepared the food and brought it to the table, but Mirabel had no appetite and didn’t want to see him. She went straight upstairs to sleep.
Fraser followed with the food. “Tired? Eat a little before you sleep.”
Mirabel pulled the blanket over her head. “Get out.”
“Ainght, I’ll make something fresh whenever you’re hungry,” Fraser said as he took the food back downstairs. A short while later, he retumed and lay down beside her.
He wrapped his arms around her from behind, his left hand firmly clasping her waist.
“What are you doing? Let go of me! Don’t touch me!” Mirabel struggled to free herself.
“Don’t move, honey, Let me hold you,” Fraser murmured, pinning ber securely in his arms, resting his chin on her shoulder with a sigh of contentment.
After more than seven months apart, he was finally holding the woman he loved again. In that moment, his restless soul seemed to settle back into his body. Overwhelmed with emotion, his eyes reddened, and he whispered, “Mirabel, I missed you so much. I really did.”
Mirabel suddenly stopped struggling.
She felt an overwhelming sadness. His love was real, yet if he loved her so deeply, why had he cheated? Why had he destroyed the years they had spent building their relationship?
If he had known it would come to this, whay had he done it in the first place?
“Fraser, I can’t forget your betrayal, and I can’t forgive it. There’s no future for us. What’s the point of all this? Let’s part ways peacefully”
Fraser said nothing, only holding her tighter.
When the moon rose, he finally released her. “I know you don’t want to see me. I’ll sleep in the guest room.”
He bent down as if to kiss her goodnight like he used to but hesitated and straightened up instead. “Goodnight.”
Fraser left, and Mirabel lay awake all night. It wasn’t until dawn that she finally fell asleep, only to be awakened near noon by the sound of her phone ringing. “Why aren’t you at the company today?”
It took her a moment to realize it was Aston calling. Irritated, she snapped, “What does it have to do with you? Do I need to report my schedule to you? Are you

Aston,

dead.
Had he lost his mind today? Why did he care whether or not she came to the company? What made him call to check on her?
And somehow, he ended up getting scolded for it.
