Laura hit me so hard that the officer could not stand it anymore.
Laura immediately shrank back, but not without glaring at me. “You… Just you wait!”
I laughed. “Just forget it if you don’t want to settle.”
I was about to leave when Trevor arrived at the police station. That caught me by surprise.
Laura rushed over to him immediately when she saw him. “Oh thank goodness you’re finally here, Trevor! This weasel is trying to blackmail me to get seven thousand five hundred dollars from me! Sack her immediately!”
That surprised me. Did they know each other?
Trevor looked at me and frowned. “Don’t worry, Aunty. I’ll take care of it.”
I was shocked. They were relatives! That explained why he had always been supporting Cecilia. I could not help but smile when I thought of that
“Mr. Scott, are you going to be a mediator?”
“Jessica, sign this settlement agreement if you still want to stay in the company.”
“So I get slapped for nothing?” I pointed at my face. “I’ve done a medical examination. I am still dizzy, nauseous, and have a concussion. I’ll be hospitalized after this.
“You’re only a supervisor, Trevor. Do you really think you’re above the law?”
Trevor looked at my face with a hideous look. He then gritted his teeth. “Seven thousand five hundred dollars is too much. Mrs. Newman didn’t mean it. Don’t be unreasonable. Let’s both take a step back, okay?”
“How much will you be compensating me?”
He clenched his fist. “Three thousand dollars, nothing more.”
“Fine, three thousand dollars it is, then.” I knew when to quit, but I would not be slapped for nothing. Laura stared daggers at me when she realized I was still getting three thousand dollars despite Trevor’s intervention. She reluctantly gave me the money.
I walked out after signing the settlement agreement. I could not help but sneer when I saw Trevor was still inside, comforting the family.
I headed to the hospital and planned to check out Cecilia’s condition.
As soon as I got off the elevator, I saw Cecilia flash by. Her sneaky look was downright suspicious, so I followed her immediately.
I noticed Cecilia on the staircase with a woman. “Mother, I lost my baby, but Stacey’s family may not be able to fork out so much money,” she whispered. “What should we do now?”
