Chapter 1
Alpha Daniel’s mother hovered anxiously beside my sickbed.
“Oh, my dear Isabelle! I was so certain that if you carried Daniel’s child, he’d come to his senses and return to your side. How could things have gone so horribly wrong?” she wailed.
“Who could have imagined that he’d be so consumed by his anger over Snow’s departure? You didn’t do a thing wrong, yet he blames you!” she continued, her hands wringing together in distress.
“Isabelle, tell me, do you curse me for this? Snow ran off with someone else, and still, you’re left to bear the brunt of his fury.”
I lay there, barely conscious, blood pooling on the floor beneath the bed, a dark, menacing stain spreading rapidly.
Summoning what little strength I had left, I managed a weak plea.
“Please, mother-in-law… have pity… let me go,” I gasped, my voice barely above a whisper.
At the sight of the ever – growing pool of blood, Alpha Daniel’s mother let out a shrill scream.
“Fetch the pack healer! Now! Hurry, or she’ll bleed to death before our eyes!” she shrieked, her face pale with terror.
Then, turning to a servant, she barked, “And get Alpha Daniel here this instant! He needs to see what his stubbornness has wrought!”
The servant scurried off, only to return moments later, breathless and wide – eyed. “Alpha Daniel, m – my lady, he’s at the Heavenly Fragrance Brothel, swimming with Sherry. He… he sent this,” the servant stammered, holding out a scandalously revealing swimsuit.
Just then, the pack healer burst into the room, his eyes widening at the grisly scene before him.
“Your Majesty,” the pack healer announced gravely, “Luna is in a dire state. Her body has been so severely damaged that she requires a werewolf’s sacred ritual for a chance at recovery. However, this ritual can only be performed three days from now.”
I stood there, my heart heavy as I listened to the healer’s words.
Just then, the pack advisor stormed in, his expression hard.
Without a word of greeting or respect for my presence, he bowed briefly to Alpha Daniel’s mother Sara and then turned to the healer.
“The timing is impossible. In three days, Alpha Daniel is set to marry his concubine mate. The preparations are already underway, and nothing can be allowed to disrupt this event. ” the advisor stated firmly, his voice leaving no room for argument.
Sara’s eyes widened in shock and then filled with anger. “Are you mad? Our Luna’s life is at stake here! How can you prioritize a concubine’s wedding over her health?”
The advisor remained unmoved.
“I’m merely following Alpha’s orders. The wedding must proceed as planned. The Luna will have to wait.”
I felt a lump form in my throat as despair washed over me.
Alpha Daniel’s mother turned to me, her eyes filled with pity and frustration.
“I’m so sorry. ” she said, her voice breaking.
I nodded, tears streaming down my face. “I understand, Your Majesty.”
The advisor glanced at me briefly, his expression cold. “Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have preparations to attend to. The wedding will take place in three days, regardless.” With that, he spun on his heel and left, leaving behind a heavy silence.
Alpha Daniel’s mother reached out and gently placed a hand on my shoulder.
Alpha Daniel’s mother, consumed by a seething rage, hurled her coffee cup across the room.
The ceramic shattered against the stone wall.
It took her what felt like an eternity to regain her composure, her chest heaving with pent – up anger as she finally turned her gaze upon me.
“I had always believed that Alpha Daniel would eventually let go of Snow,” she began, her voice heavy with regret.
“But instead, his obsession has brought ruin upon you. You, my dear, deserve to be free from this torment.”
“In three days’ time,” she continued, her tone resolute, “the decree of breaking your bond will be delivered to the werewolf manor. You can leave with a clear heart.”
“However,” she paused, her eyes searching mine, “now that things have come to this, what of Snow’s secret…?”
I immediately nodded in eager compliance.
“The truth of Snow deserting Alpha, I will lock away in the darkest recesses of my mind, to be carried to my grave. I vow it, by the moon goddess herself.”
Alpha Daniel’s mother visibly relaxed. “Good. On the day you leave, your mother, a loyal she – wolf of our pack, will be waiting for you beyond the castle gates.”
At the mention of my mother, a flood of tears welled up in my eyes and spilled down my cheeks.
