Everyone was stunned–none of them expected Lilian to slap Emma without warning!
Hence, even though Henry and Rupert were standing right beside Emma, neither of them stopped her in time.
Still, the audible smack soon jolted them to their senses, with Rupert striding up, seizing her wrist. “What are you doing?! Apologize to Ms. Stark this instant!”
Lilian merely leveled him a cool look. “Release me.”
She was not being loud, and there was no edge in her voice.
However, those two flatly spoken words left Rupert’s heart skipping a beat, and he released Lilian as if in reflex.
Even as Lilian withdrew her hand, rubbing the spot that hurt because of Rupert’s grip, Evelyn said, “You shouldn’t have hurt Ms. Stark, even if she was harsh. And we’re in a place of worship … The gods will punish you for this!”
Lilian did not even look her way as she said quietly, “Another word from you, and you’ll get it too.”
Tears welled up in Evelyn’s eyes right then, and she leveled a wounded look at Lilian.
However, Lilian’s eyes were fixed on Henry. “Do you have anything to say, General Stark?”
She wanted to be done with their nonsense, just so that she could deal with it in one go.
To her surprise, Henry shook his head. “It was Emma’s fault for being rude. I can only ask for your forgiveness, Ms. Kerr.‘
His response shocked Lilian so much she was left staring at his face, but Emma was not about to take Lilian’s slap unanswered.
“How is that my fault?!” she bellowed. “She’s a lowborn, and everyone saw her holding hands with Prince Michael! Who do they think they are?! The emperor never gave them his blessings -hell, even if His Majesty did, that’s improper behavior in public! Am I wrong to say that she put the moves on him?!”
“It seems that I shouldn’t have stopped His Highness when he was going to pick your ears clean either,” Lilian suddenly said quietly.
As Emma flinched and turned pale, Betty walked up to tug on her too. “It’s alright, just calm down. We can’t afford to upset her!”
However, Betty had phrased that so badly that it only ignited Emma’s pettiness.
Suddenly not fearing Prince Michael’s threat, she smacked Betty’s hand away and shrieked, ” Can’t afford to upset her?! So what if she has the prince?! My brother is right here!

“Even if the prince is important by birth, he has done nothing in his life! On the other hand, my brother’s military accomplishments have earned him the emperor’s admiration! I doubt that prince could do anything to me!”
“Silence!” Henry suddenly bellowed as he pulled Emma behind himself. “You’ve gone too far!”
Henry’s outburst left Emma completely silent, and she could only clutch her cheek, glaring viciously at Lillan from behind Henry.
However, Lilian simply smiled. “General Stark, you really should discipline your sister, lest she gets your family in trouble.”
Who knew what Prince Michael would have done to the Starks if he heard what Emma said just then?
Even if he had neither connection nor authority, he was still the emperor’s son such public contempt would not be tolerated.
Henry certainly understood that, but Lilian’s vague slights simply upset him.
Moreover, Emma had just said that Lilian just held hands with Prince Michael in public.
It had only been days, and they had grown so much closer?!
Hence, he growled coolly, “My sister is guilty of mischief, and I will properly discipline her- just as Ms. Kerr should be disciplined by her brother for her obscene behavior.”
Obscene behavior?
The expression on Lilian’s face stiffened.
It was almost depraved for her to hold hands with Prince Michael and enter a place of prayer, and she could not really argue against Henry’s statement.
