On the other end of the line, Hunter sat in his car his dark, sinister eyes brimming with malice. “She managed to escape this time. She’ll probably be very cautious now, making It harder for me to act.”
Sophie’s face turned cold, and she reminded him quietly, “Don’t act rashly. Wait for the right opportunity to make your move.”
“I’ll take care of her. Don’t worry. Just wait for me at home.”
As Hunter began to shift to sweet talk, Sophie hung up the phone in irritation.

Chapter 16
A week later, Luna began working for the Baxter family business.
Concerned she might be overwhelmed, Flint and Maple deliberately controlled her workload.
However, having been out of work for a long time, Luna still felt a bit anxious as she stepped into the professional world again.
Fortunately, Horace was there to guide her.
“Don’t be anxious. When negotiating with clients, treat it like a game. If it works out celebrate. If it doesn’t, just think that you’ve made a new friend.”
When Luna felt nearly suffocated by her busy schedule, Horace offered her lighthearted advice.
“How’s your alcohol tolerance? When I feel overwhelmed, I have a drink to treat myself. Even if we’re just cogs in the machine, we should be happy cogs, right? Enjoy life in your own way.”
“Pfft!”
His witty words made Luna laugh.
In Luna’s eyes, Horace was no cog in the machine; he was a golden child.
With Horace around to lighten her mood, Luna’s week went relatively smoothly.
But Hunter could no longer stay still. Luna’s strict routine of moving between just three places left him no opportunity to strike.
One day, after Luna wrapped up an important meeting, she suddenly received a call from Clover.
“Lulu, I’ve found out who the guy is.” Clover’s voice was grave.
Luna walked back into her office and closed the door behind her. “Who is it?”
“Hunter Sacre. He’s Sophie’s ex–boyfriend.” Clover shared the information she had uncovered about Hunter.
Hunter was a member of the Sacre family from Ferner City.
The Sacre family was slightly more influential than the Fulmer family, but unfortunately, Hunter was not born to the Sacre family’s legitimate wife.
Hunter’s mother, Jane Chuck, was overly ambitious. Hunter’s grandfather had noticed her scheming nature early on. As a result, Hunter was closely monitored, and he was forbidden from having any involvement with the Sacre family’s assets or enterprises.
Sophie had broken up with Hunter upon learning about this.
Later, Sophie went abroad and dated someone else, but that person had no intention of staying with her long–term.
Left with no options, Sophie returned home and reconciled with Simon.

On the other end of the line, Clover was silent for a few seconds before she nodded. “That’s my guess too. It’s clear that Hunter wanted you dead last time. I suspect he wants to get rid of you to stop Simon’s plans to go to Naavi.”
Luma sat back in her office chair. After pondering for a moment, she said, “In that case, let’s give them what they want.”
Clover frowned upon hearing that. “You want to fake
