The doctor diagnosed me with a fever, but my condition was rather serious, and I needed to be hospitalized for a couple of days for observation.
Upon hearing this, I mumbled softly, “I told you it’s nothing, it’s just a fever.”
“You’re hospitalized and you call this nothing? You could barely stand when you arrived.”
Jason stayed at the hospital with me. He took care of me meticulously, running errands for me, buying meals, getting water staying with me during check–ups. Even when I was on an IV, he would hold my hand tightly.
Thinking back to the first year after I married Rick, I had injured myself while doing housework.
Judith wouldn’t let me call an ambulance or contact Rick.
She stood by coldly, muttering, “Can’t you even handle a little chores around the house? Such minor injury will heal by itself, there’s no need to go to the hospital.”
“I can’t move.”
“My son is at work right now. There’s no way you’re asking him to come back home for such trivial matters.‘
I tried to explain that I really couldn’t move, but Judith remained unmoved. She even grabbed the phone out of my hand to prevent me from secretly contacting Rick.
When Rick came back, my knee was already horribly swollen.
“Didn’t you go to the hospital? Are you waiting for me to treat you?”
His reaction chilled me. He didn’t ask why, and he didn’t give me a chance to explain.
During my stay in the hospital, Rick used work as an excuse and didn’t visit me even
once.
Judith not only showed no concern or remorse but also complained that I had spent money on medical treatment and left the housework undone.
I thought that with Jason by my side, I could have sweet dreams.
But that night in the hospital, I had a nightmare.
In the dream, Rick appeared like a ghost at the dimly lit end of the corridor, holding a sharp knife, his eyes full of cold malice.

I panicked and tried to run away, but I found that the surroundings were surrounded by invisible walls, with nowhere to hide.
He slowly approached, his deep, dark voice echoing in my ears. “You can’t escape.”
Fear overwhelmed me as I watched that knife mercilessly stab into my abdomen. When the blade was pulled out, drops of blood slid down the sharp edge, and the air was filled with the stench of blood. I screamed in terror but could only helplessly watch everything unfold.
“Ah!” I woke up in fright, the pillow soaked in sweat, my heart pounding loudly, unable to calm down.
At that moment, a large hand gently held mine. It was Jason. His gentle voice sounded in my ear. “What’s wrong? Did you have a nightmare? Do you want an apple? I’ve peeled it and cut it into pieces. I’ve left it here for you.”
I forced a smile and nodded in response, but tears slid down my face.
“Moved so easily? I’ll do the same next time then.”
“You’re really annoying,” I said, smiling at him. The fear and unease in my heart were temporarily gone.
“I just had a nightmare. Rick stabbed me,” I whispered, my voice trembling.
“Dreams are fake, don’t be afraid. I’ll protect you.” Jason gently patted me, comforting me.
“I’ve got some good news for you.”
Hearing this, my heavy mood lightened.
“You’ve made a profit of 10 times the money you’ve invested, and the hotel you’re managing is starting to make a profit too.”
When I heard this, I wasn’t as surprised or excited as I expected.
With the money I earned, I planned to withdraw it immediately, as the stock prices would likely drop soon.
“Are you not happy about making all this money?” He looked at me with confusion.
“I have to thank you. Half of the profits will go to you.”
I didn’t answer his question, since this outcome had been expected.

Jason shook his head and refused, “It’s because of your long–term vision and strategic decisions that we made a profit. If you hadn’t spotted the hotel project, I wouldn’t have invested. This is your achievement, so I can’t take the credit.”
I insisted, “How can you say that? You invested money, and that’s why the project had the chance to be profitable.”
Jason felt that it wasn’t appropriate for him to keep saying no to me.
