Sean thought about how he needed to talk to me after he got discharged. I harbored a deep hostility toward Evelyn, and Sean could not understand where those feelings were stemming from.
He and Evelyn would still be working together as colleagues. My hostility toward Evelyn would only make things difficult for him.
However, Sean was overcome by that strange sense of unease yet again that evening. He kept seeing my eyes in his head. Those eyes were full of sorrow.
Sean felt extremely anxious and restless. It felt like something was slowly spiraling out of control without him knowing.
When he finally dozed off that night, he had a nightmare that got him feeling quite shaken afterward. He dreamed of how he could not find me no matter where he looked.
Sean could not take it anymore. He pulled out the needle for the drip as soon as morning came the next day. He wanted to go home and see for himself if I was there.

“Dr. Chandler, you’re still not fully recovered. You should stay in the hospital for a few more days. Maisie is an adult. It’s not like anything bad will happen to her. If you’re still worried, I’ll go and see her. The most she can do is mock me anyway.”
Evelyn tried to dissuade him from leaving in a gentle tone.
Yet, Sean pushed her hands off and responded calmly “It’s alright. I should go home now. I’ve stayed here for several days, and my condition has somewhat stabilized. I can rest at home, too. So, I should head home now.”
Evelyn broke down in tears. “Sean, please just stay here for a few more days and get enough rest for my sake. After all, you were injured because of me. If you go home in this state, I’ll feel extremely guilty and worried.”
Sean’s expression darkened the next instant. His voice hardened.
“What are you worried about? Also, what do you mean for your sake? I only did what I did because of Nigel. Stop saying these things that might mislead others. Maisie would definitely misunderstand us if she happened to hear what you just said.
“You should stop harboring those thoughts after all these years. You’ll always be Nigel’s girlfriend to me. Don’t think for a second that I’ll ever treat you as a potential love interest.”
