Six years ago, Sean’s best friend, Nigel Jennings, was still alive. Back then, he had a girlfriend that he liked a lot. It was Evelyn.
However, Evelyn had only agreed to be Nigel’s girlfriend because he was Sean’s best friend.

After Sean rejected her confession, Evelyn decided to go with the alternative plan of dating his friend to get closer to him. She still had feelings for Sean.
Nigel lost his life during an earthquake. The person who was supposed to die at the time was Sean. However, Nigel sacrificed himself and saved Sean.
His final request was asking Sean to take care of Evelyn. He hoped that Sean could look after her on his behalf.
At the time, Evelyn was pregnant with Nigel’s child. She was still unmarried when she got pregnant. Her parents saw her as a disgrace to their family and declared that they would disown her. They tried to force her to tell them who was the father of the child.
Evelyn came looking for Sean in tears.
Sean knew how overbearing and unreasonable the Summertons were. He did not want to hear them shame or demean his deceased friend, so he claimed that the child was his.
Unfortunately, Sean was just a student with a poor family background back then. After they gave him a good beating, the Summertons forced Evelyn to get an abortion.
Almost everyone from their college thought that Evelyn had gotten an abortion because of Sean. They were all under the impression that Evelyn was a really nice girl who was fiercely loyal to her lover. That was the reason why Sean’s friends had said those things in the ward that day.
