I sat down before the floor–to–ceiling windows and let my mind wander. The remaining rays of sunlight during sunset shone through the glass and cast a warm glow on my body as I finished up the last of my sketches.
“I guess I won’t ever have the chance to wear this wedding dress anymore.”
“Why not?”
A handsome young man suddenly appeared before me blocking the rays from my face.
I was stunned momentarily. Then, I chuckled a little awkwardly and said, “I was just voicing my thoughts aloud. Marriage isn’t that important to me anymore.”
Marley Leblanc pulled out the chair next to mine and sat down next to me in the smoothest and most natural way possible. He then quietly looked at the wedding dress sketch I made in awe.
Marley was my landlord’s son. Coincidentally, he was also studying at Ferris Arts College like me.
It was also then that I found out his family originally came from Crenia, like me. He could even speak the Hanguage.
Marley was at an age where he was curious about everything around him.
“Why would you not want to wear the wedding dress you loved anymore just because of a loveless jerk? It’s exactly because you’ve been hurt before that you must now pursue your true happiness,” he said seriously.
He looked so serious about it that I couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

“It seems like you’ve not experienced the harsh realities of life just yet. Maybe you’ll finally understand after you’ve been dumped a few times,” I said, teasing him.
Marley didn’t get mad, however. He was famous for being one of the most handsome guys on campus, and the row of females waiting to date him spanned from Ferris all the way to Burbridge.
“Luna, did you know that cats scratch people when they’re angry?”
I stared into Marley’s clear eyes, not quite understanding what he was trying to say.
“You’re behaving like an angry cat with all its claws out now. You’re just finding excuses for yourself,” he said with a laugh.

Meanwhile, I pretended to get mad and stood up. “Hey, I’m older than you!”
“You’re only two years older than me. You’re also a heartbroken little kitten who got deeply hurt before, “he continued, still teasing me.
However, I turned solemn and told him, “Marley, I’m a divorced woman, and I’ve also had an abortion.”
I didn’t look into his still–sparkling eyes because I felt some guilt eating into me. I didn’t want to taint his pure, innocent soul with my tattered self.
“We’re not fit for each other.”
Marley didn’t speak for a long time.
I tried hiding my sigh of relief. As expected, it was easier to reject him if I was just honest and straightforward with him.
“So what?” Marley suddenly blurted coldly.
I thought I’d heard him wrongly. “What?”
“You got pregnant and divorced because of a jerk. Does that mean I’m not allowed to like you, Luna?” Marley stood up and cornered me against the windows, forcing me to answer his question.
my head in desperation. “I’m not good enough for you, Marley.”
I lowered my
As soon as I’d let those words roll off my tongue, he kissed my forehead. “Don’t say that, Luna. You’re the most perfect woman I’ve ever seen.”
