When Ethan finally tracked me down, I was
playing with Sunny.
Sunny was the little yellow dog that Chad had gotten me because he thought I was bored.

I laughed. “Remember my birthday? When you

Ethan’s eyes widened.
He finally managed to say in a trembling
voice, “Summer, we weren’t broken up yet,
and you had a relationship with someone
else?”
In his mind, I was the one who’d been
unfaithful and deserved the blame.

I gave a sarcastic laugh, and asked, “When
you slept with all those other women over the
years, and when you slept with Tiffany and
she got pregnant, did you think about me?”
He didn’t answer.
He stood there, not saying anything.
Finally, he said, “Summer, get an abortion, we
won’t break up. Let’s go get the marriage.

I was so angry, I just stared him in the face,
“Abortion? Do you think that’s a possibility?
I’ve had miscarriages, the doctor said that I

I looked at him like he was crazy.

He was making his last stand, “Summer, for

Then there was a scoff.
Chad came up, putting his hands on his hips.
He said sarcastically, “You want to be the
dad? You’re not even worthy of his shoes.”
The air was tense.

When Ethan saw Chad, he lost his head,
“Chad! It’s you!”
But, he wasn’t able to lay a finger on him.
