“Do you have any evidence to back that up? You, of all people, should understand the consequences of spreading false accusations.”
Then I lifted my head, meeting her gaze coldly.
“Sharon, have you already forgotten what happened to the last person who tried to smear my name?
Back in high school, someone got jealous of my top grales and spread rumors that I’d cheated on exams to get them. The gossip spiraled out of control, eventually reaching my parents. They didn’t hesitate to call the police and had every single person involved anfested.
One of them tried to claim they were just following orders, but as soon as the police started digging deeper, everyone clammed up and insisted it had all been their own idea.
As I finished speaking, Sharon’s face drained of color. She froze in place, too afraid to say another word.
However, Eugene was livid. His expression darkened as he pulled Sharon protectively behind him, glaring at me with obvious displeasure.
“Opal, what’s that supposed to mean? The people who spread rumors about you back then were already dealt with. Stop using that to threaten Sharon. She was only speaking her mind. Was that really necessary?”
I stared back at him, my gaze void of emotion.
“If you’re so sure, Eugene, does that mean you were involved in setting me up back then?”
His face twisted in shock, but years of experience in the business world helped him quickly regain his composure. His expression darkened as he leveled a cold stare at me.
“Opal, if you’re going to say something like that, you’d better have evidence.”
A laugh escaped me as I looked at him.
“Oh, so you do know the importance of evidence.”
“You-”
Eugene’s anger boiled over, his face turning ashen as he glared at me. His voice dropped to a low, threatening tone, as though he still had more to say.
Evan stepped out of the interrogation room just in time to witness the scene. Without hesitation, he positioned himself in front of me, his presence radiating an undeniable, commanding aura.
“Are you planning to raise your hand again?”
Standing behind him, I watched Eugene’s reaction with amusement, a smirk tugging at the corner of my lips. Eugene, clearly flustered, looked more disheveled than ever as he glared at Evan.
“Brother! I’m her fiancé!”
“Is that so?” Evan replied coolly, turning toward me with deliberate slowness. The sharp authority in his gaze softened in an instant, melting into a tenderness so deep it could have swept anyone off their feet.

“Is he your fiancé?”
Without missing a beat, I shook my head and answered firmly, “No! Of course not!”

Evan chuckled softly, the sound rich and almost hypnotic. His relaxed demeanor only added to his allure, and his eyes held a teasing glint that seemed to draw me in, completely ensnaring my attention.
Before I realized what I was doing, I found myself mesmerized by his perfectly shaped lips. There was no other explanation–he must have bewitched me! How else could I explain why, on impulse, I stood on my tiptoes and pressed my lips against his?
Eugene, witnessing the scene unfold, looked as though he’d been struck by lightning. His face darkened several shades, and his clenched fists cracked audibly as he glared at us, his expression menacing. Just as he was about to explode in anger, the police called me in to give my statement.
Left with no choice, Eugene gritted his teeth and stood there, fuming in silence.
When everyone had finished being questioned, the police seemed to have a clear suspect in mind.
