Chapter 6
If she knew, why did she still insist I marry Eugene In my previous life? Why had she refused to support my divorce, knowing everything?
But then, she responded, her tone suddenly less certain.
“It doesn’t matter who you marry. At least Eugene has the skills to manage the company well. If you have someone better in mind, I’ll support breaking the engagement.”
I felt a bitter laugh rising in my chest. So that was how it was. They really didn’t love me at all.
Standing up, I announced clearly, “I’m not canceling the engagement with the Shaw family. I’m fulfilling it with Evan.”
My father looked like he wanted to argue further, but seeing my mother’s darkening expression, he reluctantly held his tongue.
The next morning, as soon as I got out of bed, I saw my mother’s car idling at the front door.
When I came outside, she motioned for me to get in without a word.
“Let’s go. We’re heading to the Shaw estate.”
The car sped toward the Shaw estate, and by the time we arrived, Sharon was already there, having beaten us to it.
As soon as my mother and I walked in, Sharon immediately clung to Eugene’s arm, her expression smug as she glanced at my mother with a look of triumph.
However, my mother merely cast her a mocking glance before directly stating the purpose of our visit.
Evan’s grandmother, Margaret Green, had always been fond of me, but Grace Lawson, Eugene’s mother, naturally supported her son.
Fortunately, Grace didn’t hold much influence in the family anymore.
When Eugene heard what I had to say, he grabbed my hand without hesitation.
“You’re breaking off the engagement with the Shaw family?”
I pulled my hand back.
However, before I could respond, Evan descended the stairs and stopped beside me. He took my hand firmly in his.
“Opal isn’t breaking the engagement with the Shaw family. She’s breaking up with you. She’s my fiancée now.”
Eugene’s gaze dropped to our intertwined hands, his eyes darkening as he spoke in a low voice.
“Why?”
I let out a soft laugh, meeting his eyes as I replied, “Why? Don’t you already know the answer? The person you love most, Sharon, is safe and sound right here by your side. Shouldn’t you be happy about that?”

425 BORUT
A flicker of panic crossed Eugene’s face before shock replaced it. He knew, just as I did. It was a secret we both shared.
Seeing the tension rise, Margaret sighed heavily and spoke up.
“Opal, this is our family’s fault, and we owe you an apology. Don’t worry. When you and Evan get married, the shares under my name will be transferred to both of you.”
I turned to her with a bright smile.
“Thank you, Madam Margaret. I’ll make sure the announcement goes public by ten this morning.”
With that, Evan and I left the Shaw estate together.
