Tired of wasting time, Simon waved his hand. Three bodyguards stepped forward. They grabbed all three of them and dragged them into the abandoned factory.
Not long after, their screams echoed from inside. The metallic scent of blood seeped through the tightly shut doors. Even I couldn’t help but shiver at this.
“Ms. Esmeray, Mr. Stewart would like to meet with you,” Simon said. His tone was polite once again as he invited me back into the car.
As we drove, my mind raced. If Julian already knew I wasn’t involved in this mess, why did he still want to see me?
When Simon stopped the car at a private hospital, I stepped out and froze at the sight of Julian and Nina. Nina was lying behind a glass door and receiving an IV treatment.
Nina was alive!
Just as I was about to ask what was going on, Julian raised a finger to his lips, signaling me to stay quiet. I immediately closed my mouth.
After stepping outside, he handed me a file. “I know what you want to ask. This is the answer.”
I opened the file and found two paternity test reports. The first was a test comparing me to Estel’s parents. The result showed no match.
So, I wasn’t their child?
Tears welled up in my eyes. I had often suspected that I wasn’t truly their daughter. I’d wondered about it whenever they abused me while showering Estel with care and affection.
But every time I saw Estel’s face—so similar to mine, yet undeniably beautiful—I pushed the thought
away.
I told myself they must dislike me because I looked plain. But now, the truth was in front of me: I simply wasn’t their child.
It was no wonder that they treated me so differently. But then, who were my real parents?
The second paternity test held the answer. It showed a 99.99% match between me and a man named Gregory Knight.
With tears still streaming down my face, I asked Julian “Who’s Gregory Knight?”
Julian’s answer stunned me. “He’s Nina’s father.”
