In everyone’s eyes, I was the pitiful woman who was tricked by her husband.
Realizing that she had misspoken, Patricia instantly started acting all cagey. She waved her hands and stammered, “N–No. I didn’t say that. You misheard me.”
Shaking all over, I slumped onto the ground, looking as if I had just received some earth–shattering
news.
“So, Martin pretended to be a wanted fugitive so that he could escape from me and ride off into the sunset with her. He was going to saddle me with the responsibility of looking after you and our son, wasn’t he? And all of you were in on this together to hide the truth from me.”
Then, I screamed at the top of my lungs, “How is he so sure that I won’t abandon you guys and remarry, huh? We were together for 11 years, but he schemed against me for the sake of that woman! What a cruel, vicious man he is!”
I started choking on my tears. As it was, I had been conned for an entire lifetime before I finally figured out the truth.
“We only did it because he said you’re extremely naive and won’t run away,” Patricia mumbled.
She wasn’t familiar with smartphones and had no idea that all of the things she said would go viral online in just a few minutes.
As for the crowd, they swiftly got the gist of the situation once they heard what I said. Immediately, they started rebuking Patricia and Whitney.
“What a despicable family! They all worked together to fool the wife so that she would look after the husband’s family. Meanwhile, he was going to pretend to be in prison when he had actually run off with his mistress!”
“What a pitiful woman. She would’ve been fooled her whole life if she hadn’t accidentally gotten her husband arrested after all.
“Thank goodness he really got arrested. I heard that his crimes were rather severe too! May justice be served!”
Soon, the police were alerted of the situation. Thanks to Martin’s confession, Whitney was called in for further investigations too.
As for me, through it all, I was the poor wife who was fooled by her husband. Naturally, I was found innocent and could walk away unpunished. In fact, as I had even delivered the evidence of his crimes to the police after discovering it, I was commended for my actions.
The police officers praised me for my conscience, and even received a plaque for that.
A few minutes later, a commotion broke out in the police station.
Patricia screamed, “Officers, Whitney’s the real mastermind! My son was only a teenager back then! It was her who kept saying she didn’t have any money and prompted him to steal! She’s committed plenty of other crimes too. I remember everything!”
