Whitney didn’t give up without a fight, of course. She fought back by declaring, “Do you think Martin is a saint? Officer, I have evidence of other crimes Martin has committed too!”
The police asked for all the related evidence, so both Patricia and Whitney rushed home to dig out everything they could. It was impossible to count the number of crimes they had committed, including embezzlement, trafficking of cultural relics, illegal drug dealing, and more.
Both parties tried to throw each other under the bus in an attempt to vent their anger, not knowing that both Martin and Whitney were about to face some serious music for their crimes.
Soon, the police were able to establish the case. Thanks to Patricia’s “hard work,” Martin received a 30- year prison sentence, while Whitney was given a 35–year one.
The news left Patricia feeling dumbstruck. But when she saw Martin being led away in handcuffs, she knew there was no way of changing the outcome now.
When the police tried to pursue a case against Patricia, she immediately started wailing and insisting that she had been kept in the dark too. Since there was insufficient evidence against her, the police never pressed charges.
I assumed this was the end of it, but the moment I left the police station, Daniel chomped down on my leg.
“You witch! You evil woman! You sent Daddy and Ms. Lewis to prison!”
The pain shot through me as Daniel bit down so hard that he drew blood. I could no longer put up with this ingrate. Thus, I slapped him in the face without hesitation, but that didn’t satisfy me. I gave him a few more slaps for good measure before finally stopping.
Daniel sat on the floor and howled.
Patricia immediately pulled him into her arms and chastised me “Louise! You should never take your anger out on a child! He’s still so young! What kind of a mother treats her own son that way?”
Holding Daniel close, she continued, “Oh, Danny. Does it hurt? See this mother of yours? She’s nothing more than a madwoman. Look at how she mistreats you all the time!”
Daniel glared at me, but I was simply amused by it all. Patricia had always done little things here and there to drive a wedge between Daniel and me, but I never took it to heart.
However, in my previous lifetime, I truly cared for Daniel. I scrimped and saved, spending next to nothing on myself just so I could afford his education and look after Patricia too. Yet, once I’d gotten old,. Daniel abandoned me on the streets. He left me to starve to death.
What were a few slaps compared to that?
However, before I could reprimand Daniel, I was instantly surrounded by several burly men who shouted at me, “Pay up! Repay your debts!”
Only then did it occur to me that Martin had left something else in store for me!
