frame me for this?
“That hurts.”
I didn’t want to hear more of his lies, so I cut him off and told him everything I knew.
“Right. So you didn’t install the cameras and trackers?”
He reflexively tried to deny it, but I didn’t give him the chance.
“And you didn’t prepare the blood–clotting medicine too, hmm? What about signing the agreement to clear the blood clots? That wasn’t you either?”
With every statement, I heard something shatter on his end of the line.
When I finished, the line went eerily silent.

After a while, he spoke shaklly. “You’re wrong, Vanessa.
“I installed those because I wanted to protect you! I was worried about you!
“Yes, I admit I was selfish! I was so scared you’d leave me; that’s why I did those things to keep you by my side! I did it out of love…”
If I hadn’t known better, I might have believed his lies.
“What about Regina, then? I thought you loved her, hmm?”
This time, there was nothing he could do but sigh.
“So you already knew, huh…”
I didn’t deny it.
I heard him sob on the other end of the line, and goosebumps rose on my skin in disgust.
“I’m sorry, okay? I know I shouldn’t have done that, but any other man in my position would’ve done the same thing!
“Forgive me this once, please! I’ll never do it again, I swear!”
I didn’t say a word. He took my silence as hesitation and quickly pressed on.
“Please, come back, Vanessa! I’ll do anything you want!”
Softly, I repeated that line to myself and smirked. “Get rid of the child in Regina’s belly first. Then we can talk.”
He fell silent. I wasn’t surprised by his reluctance.
Regina may not have been important to him, but her child certainly was.
To Jared, a son was far more valuable than any
wife.
I wouldn’t have made such a request if I hadn’t been certain he would disagree.
Yet, I felt more disgusted than satisfied.
“Pfft. Who are you kidding, Jared?
“Don’t even think about contacting me until you’ve done it.”
I ended the call before he could try to explain himself.
Jared didn’t stop calling. When he realized I wasn’t picking up, he began spamming me with messages.
[Have you forgotten the years we’ve spent together, Vanessa?!]
[I am your husband! You can’t do this to me!]
I blocked his number with a scoff and quickly contacted my lawyer to prepare the divorce papers.
Just the thought of talking to Jared filled me with disgust.
