I feared they would reappear, so I moved out of my brother’s house.
Normalcy returned, and I even signed up for several hobby courses.
They were fun and fulfilling.
Just as I was preparing to start anew, I received a parcel containing a child’s toy drenched in fake blood.
Inside was also a picture of me, my face sliced with a dagger, alongside the words scrawled in red ink: ” Go to Hell!”
Terrified, I quickly contacted building management, only to learn that the surveillance cameras had been destroyed three days earlier.
I was sure this was a targeted attack.
Before I could take action, I received a new project from my company–my hundredth new couple.
If this project worked out, I would finally achieve my dream and earn a promotion.
Excitedly, I walked into the conference room, only to be met with the face I detested most.
“Vanessa, this is Mr. Hampton. You will be in charge of his wedding planning.”
Jared extended his hand, his eyes filled with adoration
“Long time no see, Vanessa.”
I forced a smile, shook his hand politely, but quickly pulled away.
“I look forward to working with you, Mr. Hampton.”
His wedding budget was enormous, so the company gave this project top priority. My supervisors insisted I do my best to fulfill his requests and even paused several of my other projects so I could focus solely on him.
This arrangement gave Jared the perfect excuse to stick by my side. He came to the office daily, staying until the end of the workday.
Each time, I could only respond with a polite smile and give minimal responses.
He flipped through my past proposals and tutted disapprovingly. “You don’t have to work so hard, Vanessa.”
He stepped closer, reaching for my hand but hesitated when he saw the disgust in my eyes.
“You never have to work again! I’ve already fulfilled what you asked for!”
I frowned. What I asked for? What could he possibly… Regina’s child!
A shudder ran through me, fear creeping up my spine.
