“Let’s turn in early tonight too.”

But soon I felt his body press against my back, his arm around my waist, his voice unusually soft.

He leaned down to kiss me, but when I dodged, anger flashed in his eyes. He pinned me down, pressing against me hard.
I bit his lip viciously, then slapped him across the face.
James touched his bleeding lip, barely controlling his anger. “Rachel, we’ve been married for years. What’s wrong with wanting a child? Even if you’re jealous of Sophie, there should be limits.”
I looked at him, my gaze ice cold. “I told you, I want a divorce. If you want kids, find someone else. I’m sure plenty would be willing.”

James seemed not to hear me, staring through gritted teeth.
“Rachel, what did you say? Say it again if you dare.”
“I want a divorce.”
James was silent for a long time, then laughed bitterly. “Are you sure you’ve thought this through?”
I blinked. “What else is there to think about?”
After getting dressed, James looked at me with contempt, his gaze sharp. “Your manipulation never ends. I really underestimated you.”
He slammed the bedroom door so hard the walls shook
James didn’t come home for two weeks after that and was completely cold at work.
But his usually inactive Instagram suddenly came alive.
He seemed to be living with Sophie now.
No need for FaceTime during her evening streams anymore- he’d sit right next to her on camera, making sure to post stream highlights so all their friends would see.
