Those memories surged within me, but I no longer loved him.
“You’re out of your mind, Owen,” I said.
He clutched his head, remaining silent for what seemed like forever before he apologized. Audrey.”
m sorry,
His tone was as gentle as it had always been during the ten years we shared, but it was hard to tell what lay beneath it. He hated me now, and I resented him.
I calmed myself, taking control of my emotions as I said, “We’ve parted on good terms, moved on from the past. You saved my life and took it in my past life, so we’re even now!

“I’ve got no feelings left for you. Abduction and holding someone against their will are crimes. Why would you
do something so senseless?”
Owen’s gaze drifted toward the sunlight outside before settling back on me, sizing me up. Suddenly, he pulled out his phone and showed me a photo–a stunning wedding dress, perfectly white and gleaming.
“You’d look amazing in this, Audrey, but I lost it by accident…” he muttered.

The madness in his eyes sent a jolt of fear through me
“I’ve moved on, Owen. I’ve got a husband and a child now. It’s over. There’s no going back,” I said.
His face darkened instantly. In a flash, he was before me, his hand tightening around
my
throat.
“Shut up, Audrey,” he hissed. “I’ll drag us both to hell if I have to. That way, no one will ever come between us again.”
A wave of suffocation gripped me. I started coughing violently, and Owen immediately released his hold, his tone soft as he apologized. “I’m sorry, Audrey. I didn’t mean it.

I shook my head, a sharp pain piercing my neck.
Desperate and heartbroken, Reuben cried, “Let her go and take me instead!”
Owen stared impassively as Reuben stepped forward. He pressed a kiss to my cheek before shoving me into Reuben’s arms.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I clung to Reuben. We headed out while the SWAT officers moved in to
arrest Owen.
Suddenly, Owen yelled, “Cover her eyes, Reuben!”
The world went black in an instant. Vanessa’s scream cut through the darkness, followed by two sickening thuds.
Reuben wrapped his arm around me, his voice shaky. “Don’t look. Don’t turn around.”
Step by step, I left that unknown place behind. When the darkness finally lifted, Reuben was still holding me tight.
Together, we walked away from the source of my pain, leaving it all in the past.
