after Jonathan and I got married, she manipulated him into giving her all our money so she could control our finances.
I didn’t want to save someone like her a second time.
I accompanied Dad as he completed the rest of his tests and wrote down everything the doctor pointed out. This time, I didn’t want anything to happen to him. I wanted him to be in good health, and I wanted to keep his business safe. That was my goal.
Jonathan and his family were on their own. He worked several jobs at once and stopped treating his buddies to meals. He even stopped giving Henrietta money. In fact, he asked them for money.
He’d recorded all the money he’d spent on them and told them to repay him, but that didn’t go as he expected. His buddies abandoned him now that he no longer had money, but Henrietta stuck by him. She probably thought I wasn’t serious about leaving Jonathan to fend for himself that I was just mad.
Well, she was wrong.

She even had the nerve to come to me in class and say oudly, “I know you’re only acting like this because you’re jealous of me, but you don’t need to worry about anything.
“There’s nothing between Jonathan and me, so you can continue sponsoring him. He really needs the money now. I’m sure he’ll get together with you if you give him a hundred thousand dollars.”
I chuckled. “A hundred thousand dollars? How shameless of you! Wasn’t he the one who said he didn’t need my charity? And who are you to come and tell me these things? Lastly, I can have any man I want if I’m willing to spend a hundred grand on him. Why should I go for someone who’s so…”
I curled my lip and finished disdainfully, “So arrogant yet incapable.”
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Jonathan stiffen as he approached me. He clenched his fists, seemingly telling himself to endure my insult. His complexion was pale because he’d pushed himself too hard, working several jobs at once.
He looked humiliated but kept his voice low as he said, ‘You’ve won, Thalia. I’ll let you be my girlfriend, so pay the medical bill.”
I scoffed. “You sound so reluctant. Have I forced you to do this? Did I ever say anything about wanting to be with you?”
Jonathan took a deep breath and shut his eyes. “You like me, don’t you? I’ll be with you. You’ve stopped giving me money to force me into this, haven’t you? Well, your plan has worked. Are you happy now?”
My expression turned frosty, and I said, “Listen up, Jonathan. I don’t like you anymore. What makes you think you’re worthy of my admiration when you’re poor and incapable? Stop harassing me, alright? Don’t you think it’s shameful for a man to keep asking a woman for money? Can you get that in your head?”
He swayed on the spot and looked at me in disbelief. “That can’t be… Even if you don’t like me anymore, can you help me one last time?”
“The money I gave you in the past would’ve been more than enough to pay your mother’s medical bills if you’d bothered saving it. You only have yourself to blame for your reckless spending–you spent that money on other people. If you need it back, you’re going to have to beg them to repay you,” I said.
Jonathan turned ashen when he heard that and reached out to grab me. “Thalia…”
I backed away to avoid him. To my surprise, he fell to the floor.
This reminded me of how I’d died in my past life. It was ironic that our identities had been switched this time around. Still, what did it matter to me?
“Jonathan! You’ve gone too far, Thalia! You upset Jonathan so badly that you made him faint!”
Henrietta screeched. She lunged at Jonathan to check on him.
He was breathing fine, so his situation wasn’t the same as mine. He’d only passed out.
Tsk!
I kicked him. “Wake up!”
He didn’t budge. Our classmates circled us and whispered among themselves, but none of them

volunteered to help.
I looked around and pointed at the guys who usually followed Jonathan around. “It’s time to pay for all those free meals you guys got from Jonathan. Take him to the infirmary.‘
“Why should we? You’re the one who made him faint! one of them retorted.
I sneered. “You guys spent all his money, forcing him to go hungry while working several jobs. That’s why he passed out. Or maybe you’re waiting for me to call the cops so we can do the math and see whether you guys need to pay him back. I should remind you that the money is all mine–I have every right to get it back if I want.”
They immediately shut up and reluctantly lifted Jonathan, carrying him to the infirmary.
Henrietta glared daggers at me before leaving. Her gaze was filled with indignation and resentment.
What did she have to feel resentful about?
