+25 BONUS
As soon as I’d gotten off the plane, I saw that Aaron called me dozens of times. When he called me again, I planned to hang up on him, but I accidentally answered the call because the weather was too cold.
Aaron’s anxious voice was heard.
“Kat, where are you? Are you really mad? Read your WhatsApp. I’ve just sent you a photo. I ordered 99 roses for you.
“I know that it had been a humiliating thing for you, so I felt remorseful as soon as I was done. I’ve already chased Rachel out and ordered the roses for you. That should fix the humiliation problem for you at the company. Right?”
Everyone at the company had already witnessed the joke with their own eyes. What was the whole point of doing such an outlandish thing anymore?
I immediately hung up on him. Then, I went to a warmer place, composed a long message, and sent it to the company’s main WhatsApp group.
“I, Katrina Sanders, have already sold off all of my shares and I am no longer your boss. Before leaving this group, I’d just like to know that I am giving out my final bonus to everyone. You can check your accounts later. Till next time.”
Then, I sent out all the money and quit the group chat.
I’d finally gotten back my dignity by myself.
Everyone at the company received a hundred dollars per person, including Aaron.
This time, I answered the phone when Aaron called.
“Katrina! Did you really sell off your shares? Why? Our dreams are just about to be fulfilled! The company is getting listed!”
I could hear Aaron’s voice trembling. However, I answered him calmly, “Aaron Tomlinson, my dream was never to start a company with you.
“You never knew that my dream has always been to dabble in the travel industry. I only gave it up for you. I’m just starting to live for myself now. You won’t blame me for this, will you?”
Aaron went silent for a long time. Then, he finally spoke gloomily, “I didn’t know that. I just know that I panicked when I couldn’t find you at the company anymore. And when you said you let go of all your shares, I felt as if my world had collapsed.”
Had this been in the past, I wouldn’t be able to bear watching him being so down and forlorn. I would immediately go back to him and say, “It’s okay, Aaron You can just focus wholly on creating your products. You don’t have to worry about a thing because you’ve got me.”
But now, I just said lightly, “Aaron Tomlinson, I don’t care if you blame me, but I will still stick with my
decision.
