For small tasks like passing the remote and room keys, my mom ran back and forth, completely at my command. But at 5 p.m., when it was time for room inspections, she was completely floored.
A little girl clung to my leg, looking up at me with teary eyes.
“Miss, you’ve been gone so long… you didn’t forget about me, did you?”
Mew Mew, dressed in the little outfit I’d given it, rubbed against my foot, purring and putting on its most adorable act.
“Meow, meow,” which meant, “You despicable human, You’ve been gone so long, even I kind of missed you. The elderly woman in the black scarf had already reunited with her son.
Apparently, on the third day of my leave, her son saw the notice I’d posted and, with the guidance of the other game bosses, found his way to her.
The old woman gifted me a peculiar sweater.
“Young lady, you’ve done so much for us. This is just a little something, probably worthless, but I hope you will like it.”
Then, pulling her son along, she gave me a deep, formal bow of gratitude.
What happened next left my mom completely stunned.
It turned out this hotel didn’t just have thirty–eyed dogs but also long–necked people, four–winged birds, and even dragons!
By the time room inspections were done, she looked dazed and disoriented.
I suspected her entire worldview had been shattered.
With a cheeky grin, I asked, “So, Mom, what do you think? wasn’t lying, was I?”
She pinched my hand gently and said, “You little brat. You’ve grown up and actually become a working adult. I’m so proud of you.”
And for the first time, I felt genuinely proud of myself too.
It wasn’t just about earning money. I realized I had grown so much through this job.
After that day, my mom never thought I was making up stories to lie to her again.
What’s more, I suddenly noticed that the death rate at the haunted hotel had dropped significantly.
It used to be ranked as the top “suicide–themed” game instance, but recently, it was barely hanging on at the bottom of the list.
I found this strange at first.
Later, the game bosses explained to me:
