Annie grew impatient when she saw our wordless communication. She pushed us aside and started fiddling with the dashboard camera.
“What’s this? Why was the footage deleted?” She turned around and looked at me with a dark expression. “Are you toying with me? Was it fun making me come all the way over from the hospital just for nothing?”
Karen started to add fuel to the fire. “That’s right, Lucy. How could you make all of us come all the way here? All these years, I’ve treated you just like my own child. How could you accuse me of being a mistress?
“What did I do wrong to you? I fed and clothed you and even tended to the household chores every day without any complaints. I’m not asking for anything back, but you shouldn’t repay my kindness with resentment!
“You might feel better now that you’ve labelled me as a mistress, but what about me? I’ve lived an honest life all these years. How did I get stuck with someone like you?” Karen started tearing up pitifully as she spoke.

Anyone unaware of the real situation would feel sorry for her. As expected, the bystanders turned against me once again and started to criticize me again.
Someone started, “Oh my god, I must’ve been blind to have stood up for her previously!”
Another said, “She’s so vicious to actually do this to her own mother–in–law. How shameless!”
One replied, “What a dramatic turn of events! She should’ve just openly admitted her wrong. Why must she frame someone else?”
They continued to criticize me, trying to drown me in their condemnation.
William couldn’t stand seeing Karen cry so dejectedly. He glared at me angrily and said, “Can’t you just take up responsibility for your actions, Lucia?”
Karen lowered her head, flashing me a sinister smile when nobody was looking at her. Once again, I underestimated her shamelessness.
I couldn’t help but laugh bitterly upon seeing myself being condemned by so many people. There were just too many foolish people in this world.
