The first snapshot the photographer took was of Nathan looking down at my side profile. His deep and bright golden eyes were captivating, but I couldn’t bring myself to meet his gaze.
Once the photo session was done, Nathan simply left. His stoic demeanor was a stark contrast to Carl’s.
Meanwhile, Mom eagerly pulled out her phone and uploaded my wedding photos to her social media accounts. The tone of her caption was smug.
“These are my daughter’s and future son–in–law’s wedding photos. Just look at them! They’re clearly a match made in heaven. Aren’t you all jealous?”
I could only watch helplessly as Mom set one of the photos as the header of her profile and proudly showed it to everyone she could.
Her years of suppressed motherly love were overwhelming, and I was rendered speechless.
After I changed out of the wedding dress, Aunt Selma suddenly called.
“Blaire, have you told Carl that you’re getting married? He doesn’t seem to care at all. Just now, I saw him helping that conniving girl Ivy upstairs. I almost pounced on her when I saw them in the elevator. I barely stopped myself from ripping her face off!” she complained over the phone

I lowered my gaze to conceal the emotions swirling in my eyes.
“No, because he never officially marked me under the Goddess of the Moon’s witness. He’s never even confessed to me. He’s at best just a friend. I don’t see any need to tell him that I’m getting married.”
Aunt Selma sighed. “I see. I guess I’ll never understand young people nowadays. I’ve booked a midnight flight and should be able to make it to the wedding.”
“Thanks, Aunt Selma. Safe travels.”
After I ended the call, Mom bellowed furiously, “What? He never even confessed to you? And you wasted ten years on him? If I’d known sooner, I would’ve forced you to come home and get married!
“What nonsense! You always spoke so highly of him in front of us, so I really thought you were happy. How dare he mistreat you after everything we’ve done for him? Without our investments, he wouldn’t have been able to build his company!”
I gently patted Mom’s hand, trying to calm her down.
“I didn’t lie to you, Mom. At the time, I really was happy.”

Realizing something, I hastily rushed up to stop Dad from making the call. “It’s fine, just let it be.”
