Chapter 40
In a dimly lit, abandoned parking lot, Jessica slowly regained consciousness. Her eyes covered by a piece of cloth, she couldn’t make sense of her surroundings.
She slowly began piecing together the events. She had been out shopping, planning to meet a friend. After parking in the underground lot, she had the unsettling sensation of being watched. Turning around, she saw no one, but the feeling lingered. Uneasy, she quickened her steps, eager to reach the elevator.
As the dim lights flickered overhead, the silence of the place felt oppressive. Then, a sudden, sharp sound of footsteps echoed behind her. Before she could react, a cloth soaked in a pungent–smelling chemical–was pressed to her face. She struggled to breathe, panic rising in her chest, before her world finally went dark.
As Jessica was recalling all this, the black cloth over her eyes was ripped away. She never expected the first person she saw after waking up to be Cameron. It looked like they were in an abandoned parking lot.
Cameron glanced at her briefly, then turned and sat on a chair a few feet away. His smile was familiar, but something about it felt strange.

Jessica was bound tightly, her arms and legs restrained, her mouth gagged. She struggled for a while but couldn’t
- up. and her mind was in a mess. She knew exactly why she was here. She had turned him in, so Cameron wasn’t going to let her walk away.
Before she could even think it through, he stood up and walked toward her. She tensed, watching him carefully However, he only gently helped her sit up. As his eyes fell on her face, his gloved hand moved to her cheek, his eyes filled with tenderness.
“Jessica, how wonderful would it be if you just kept loving me forever? You spent five years longing for me, and I finally came back. But as soon as Sebastian started his new life, you couldn’t accept it? If you hadn’t changed, maybe I’d have taken you abroad by now.”
Jessica had no idea what Cameron was thinking. She couldn’t move or speak, and could only stay silent as he kept caressing her face.
After a while, his expression suddenly changed into something fierce. “But you’re the kind of woman who gets what she wants, then looks elsewhere. You started longing for Sebastian again the moment you had me. How pathetic is that? You were the one who introduced him to your best friend, then you went behind his back and hurt her.”
The hand on her face suddenly turned forceful. The discomfort and fear made her struggle harder, but it was no use. Fortunately, Cameron retracted his hand quickly, and his expression returned to normal.
He stepped back and dragged a chair closer, sitting directly across from her. “Let me tell you about the five years I spent abroad.”
After he was done recounting his experience, he concluded, “I wasn’t planning on staying long. I just wanted to see you briefly before leaving again. But then, you ditched Sebastian and came straight to me.”
He paused, then continued, “So, I changed my mind. But once you had me, you pulled the same old trick. Just like when you dumped Sebastian, you planned to leave me too.
Jessica couldn’t stand to hear more. She turned her head away, but Cameron grabbed her chin, forcing her to look
at him.
“I’m not Sebastian. There are things I won’t tolerate,” he hissed.
“Didn’t you say you’d finally realized the truth? That the one you really love is him?” Cameron glanced at his watch “He should be here any indute now. I’ll do you a favor today you can die together.”
