“Where’s the one I gave you?!”
I immediately shot back, “That’s the one you gave me. Adam even made sure I took it back after you left. How could it not be the same?
“Didn’t you see the video I sent you last time?”
I knew it. Laura was worried that watching the video would make the curse fall on her too, so she did not watch it.
Laura’s eyes went wide open. Her face was filled with disbelief. “You said that Adam made sure you took it back?”
“Yeah. He even said that this is a really valuable gramophone, so I was not to take another one back.”
At that moment, my phone suddenly rang.
Adam’s voice came through. “I knew it! I told you, something bad would definitely happen to that idiot of your cousin, and I was right!
“She deserved what happened to her! Don’t give her any money! She’s just a deadbeat’s daughter! How could she possibly return it to you?
“Just you wait. Her life will soon be over.”
I gave Laura an innocent look.
Hatred burned in Laura’s eyes. “What does he mean by that?”
Looking lost, I shook my head. “I don’t know.”
Then, I spoke into the phone. “What do you mean by that, Adam?”
Adam remained silent for two seconds before he hung up.
Pin–drop silence filled the house.
With bloodshot eyes, Laura glared at me. “Adam must have switched out the gramophone after I left!”
I blinked before I nodded. “It must be. But he never told me that he switched it out. I thought that this was yours.

“Is it that important?”
Laura was practically hissing when she said, “It’s not important. Not at all.”
But she could no longer hold her tears back.
When she ran out of my house, her legs trembled so badly that she looked like she was about to fall. Even so, she kept yelling in rage. “Adam, you piece of trash! How could you do this to me?!”
I stared at her back coldly, and I laughed.
“Adam” called again. “Is what I said enough, Miss?”
“Yes. I’ll send you the money later. You know what you can and cannot say after this, don’t you?”
“Adam” answered calmly and steadily, “Of course. We’ll keep this a secret.
The call ended. I sat down on my couch and wondered how Laura and Adam would tear each other apart.
I understood Laura far too well. She was stupid and bad, so she would never figure out that I set this entire thing up, much less believe in what Adam had to say.
What a pity that I could not watch the two of them rip into each other in rage.
1 took out the gramophone she gave to me from the closet, and my mind went on a trip down memory lane.
I was finally able to avoid the fate of my entire family dying this round, and those two wastes of space were going to get what they deserved!
All I needed to do next was wait for their eventual fate.
The next afternoon, I received a call from the police telling me to go to the morgue to identify a corpse.
When I arrived, I smelled the stench of something heavily burnt.
Adam’s corpse lay under the white cloth, and his face was no longer identifiable. He was also curled up in a strange manner.
The police told me that someone set Adam’s house on fire and locked it from outside so that Adam could not run.
In the end, Adam could not endure the fire anymore and jumped down from more than twenty stories. That was why he was smashed so badly that he was beyond recognizable.
I nodded calmly and felt no sorrow within me. He brought this on himself.
Later on, the police told me that they had already located the suspect, and they were on their way to capture her.
When they arrested Laura, I went to see her.
She was in such a disheveled mess that she looked like she had lost her mind.
Once she saw me, she started yelling, “Save me! Save me!”
“Save you?” I sneered and had someone call me. When she heard “Adam’s” voice again, Laura was dumbfounded. After half a minute of silence, she asked with a quivering voice, “Did you lie to me? You actually lied to me!”
I shrugged nonchalantly. “What do you mean by that? I lied to you? You’re the dumb one here.
“You’re the one who wanted to ruin my life, and now you’re criticizing me?
