Jeremy once asked him, “If Lois and Jenny fell off a cliff one day, who would you save?”
Nathan had laughed, thinking the question was ridiculous. Of course, he would save Jenny, but he would die with
- me.
Jeremy had laughed too but then asked, “What if Lois doesn’t want to die?”
“You can’t keep using Lois‘ love for you as an excuse to keep hurting her. If she doesn’t feel your love, she’ll give up too.”
At the time, Nathan had dismissed the idea. He had never truly taken those words to heart.
But now, he realized how true they were.
That night, Nathan returned to the villa.
I lived in the villa on the mountainside since our marriage.
I was an exceptional artist. When I was ten, my landscape painting was hailed as the work of a prodigy, and everyone expected me to be a rising star in the world of art. And I had indeed become one.

But after our marriage, my painting style changed. It was never the same as before.
My teacher had tried to guide me, but the results were minimal. Eventually, I gave up painting entirely, even rejecting the idea of picking up a brush.
Nathan walked into my studio. When he saw the landscape painting on the easel, he stopped in his tracks.
A few simple strokes, yet it seemed so lifelike.
When the housekeeper, Carla Jenning, saw the light on in the studio, she entered and was surprised to find Nathan. “Mr. Baldwin,” she greeted.
Nathan looked up and asked, “When did Mrs. Baldwin paint this?”
Carla answered, “The day you brought Ms. Price back.”
Nathan nodded, his lips curving into a smile, but no smile ever reached his eyes.
After leaving the studio, he returned to the room he had shared with me. He had told himself countless times that our divorce was only temporary.
Once the storm passed, he would ask me to marry him again and give me the wedding of a lifetime. But somehow, his heart felt empty.
He chalked up everything I had said today to my anger and frustration.
We had a home in Narla together–how could I not go back?
Then, there came a knock on the master bedroom’s door.
Nathan looked up from the bed, and there stood Jenny. She was dressed in a thin robe, her face slightly flushed. She stood in the doorway, quietly watching him.
“What are you doing here?” Nathan asked.
