Mrowned. “Are you out of your mind?”
Nicolas stepped back, threw out a bitter, “You’ll regret this” and stormed off.
Finally, he was gone.
I exhaled slowly, feeling an odd mix of relief and exhaustion. The weight that had been pressing on my chest for so long was gone, but there was also a strange emptiness left in its place.

Chapter 7
To me, Nicolas hadn’t just been a boyfriend for the past year. He had been the embodiment of my first innocent idea of love, the person I had poured my romantic daydreams into when I was young and naive.
Now, all those sweet, innocent memories had shattered into nothing but a mess of broken pieces.
Still, seeing him for who he really was gave me a sense of closure I hadn’t realized I needed.
Aaron had been standing quietly to the side the entire time. When I finally looked up, I found his eyes already on
- me.
“Do you need me to book you a room?”
I shook my head. “I already booked one in advance.”
Aaron was silent for a moment, then said, “This is the matter you needed to take care of?”
I sighed inwardly. Of all the people who could have seen this mess, of course, it had to be my boss.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Ford. I’ll get myself together quickly. It won’t affect my work after the holidays.” “No.” He paused for a beat. “That’s not what I meant.”
I blinked at him. Not what he meant? Then what did he mean?
For a split second, I thought I caught the faintest flush of color on Aaron’s sharp, striking features.
“He… he doesn’t deserve you.‘
Something in my chest skipped unexpectedly.
“Huh. Look at that,” I thought in amusement. “Turns out Aaron does know how to say the right thing.”
