Chapter 18
Lucy’s mouth formed a perfect “O” as she stared at Nicole’s expressionless face. “Nicole, how can you talk about Travis like that? Don’t you love him? Even if he doesn’t love you, you shouldn’t insult him!“.
Nicole let out a soft, cold laugh, speaking with deliberate casualness. “Miss Miller, who said I love Travis?” “Everyone knows! The whole upper society knows how you chased after Travis – you even followed him into the men’s room once, trying to kiss him.”
“Ah, but as you said, that was in the past. Now I don’t love him anymore. I’ve lost interest – in fact, I despise him. So isn’t it natural to criticize him?”
“You really don’t love Travis anymore? Lucy deliberately raised her voice with the question.
While seemingly directed at Nicole, it was clearly meant for Travis’s ears.
Though Lucy knew Travis didn’t love Nicole, she also knew that anyone would develop some level of attachment after so many years together. She wanted Travis, proud as he was, to hear that Nicole no longer loved him.
Knowing his arrogant nature, Lucy was certain Travis wouldn’t try to keep Nicole – he might even lash out at her.
Nicole saw right through Lucy’s manipulation.
In the past, she would have desperately tried to explain herself to Travis, falling right into Lucy’s trap.
But now, Nicole didn’t care what Travis thought of her anymore. She replied simply, “I really don’t love Travis anymore. I’m here to repay Grandpa’s kindness. Since Miss Miller is here to care for him, I’ll leave.”
With those words, Nicole turned to go.
She couldn’t bear to stay in the same room as Travis another moment.
If not for William, she wouldn’t have come at all.
Her dress was soaked through she needed to change.
But just as she was stepping through the doorway, Travis’s deep, angry voice boomed out, “After all these years of living off my family, you’re just walking away?”
Nicole stopped.
She turned slowly, facing the angry man in the hospital bed “Mr. Graham, what exactly is your point?”
When Nicole finally turned around, Travis felt secret relief surprised at his own fear of her leaving.
Quickly masking his confused emotions, Travis fixed Nicole with a cold stare.
“Grandpa’s sick, and I have no one to take care of me. Since you claim to owe him so much, shouldn’t you stay and look after me?”
Lucy was more alarmed by these words than Nicole.
Travis, darling, Nicole’s your ex–wife now. It wouldn’t be appropriate for her to care for you. I can do it.”
Travis immediately refused. “No, you can barely move. Why should you exhaust yourself with work like this? Let someone else handle it.”
Travis’s words sounded logical, but to Lucy, something felt very wrong.

On the surface, he seemed to be treating Nicole with his usual disdain, but Travis who had always hated Nicole’s touch – was now actively asking for her care.
Something didn’t add up.
“Travis, I don’t mind the effort. If it helps you recover, a little hardship means nothing to me.” Lucy was determined not to allow any intimate contact between Travis and Nicole.
After all these years, she had finally managed to break up their marriage. She couldn’t risk them growing close again.
