I looked at Chris and smiled apologetically at him. “I’m sorry for causing you all this trouble.”
“No, it’s no trouble at all.” Chris shook his head. He sounded like he was about to cry as well. “Don’t worry,
Catherine. I’ll take good care of Laura. I’ve asked for the best medical team to come and treat you. You’ll be alright.

“Thank you.” I looked at him gratefully. “Thank you, Chris.
Chris wiped the tears from my face. “I’m so sorry, Catherine. If I had come to find you earlier, none of this would have happened…”
After staying in the hospital for two days, I insisted on being discharged.
I wanted to be by Laura’s side for the little time that I had left.
Chris and Rory had no choice but to agree.
Laura was still unwilling to talk to me.
Chris had transferred her to a new school. It was an international school where the lessons were taught in two languages. The tuition fees were dear as well.
Due to Laura’s current situation, I asked Chris to apply for a long leave.
I didn’t want to see James, Nova, and Brenda anymore, so I moved into Chris’s villa with Laura.

I was going to rent another house, but Chris threatened me that if I didn’t go live with him, he wouldn’t take care
of Laura for me.
I had no choice but to agree.
One day, Laura and I were sunbathing in the villa’s garden during lunchtime.
Chris walked over with a plate of fruits. “Did you know that this was supposed to be our wedding house?”
I turned and looked away, not wanting to say anything. I didn’t know what to say anyway.
I was dying, so how could I accept someone else’s love? Especially when the person was the son of an affluent family like Chris.
He didn’t blame me for not answering his words. “I didn’t tell James about your condition. I feel that he’s not worthy to know.”
I turned to look at him. “Thank you. The weather’s quite nice today. I want to take Laura out to change her name.” “Okay.” Chris nodded and took me and Laura to the household registration center to change Laura’s name.
Laura’s full name was Laura Frost, but I changed it to Nicole Somerfield.
I hoped that the name change would leave her past behind her.
This was the last thing I could do for her as her mother.
After coming out of the household registration center, we happened to bump into James, Nova, and Brenda.
I guessed that they were here to change Brenda’s name as well.
When Nova saw me, she came over to greet me enthusiastically like before. “Are you alright, Catherine? You scared me that day.”
I curved my lips but didn’t answer her question.
