I decided to be nice to myself before I die.
The cleaner nodded and said with a smile, “Okay. I’ll give you a discount in the future then. I normally charge 40 dollars every time, but I’ll give you a 10% discount and charge you 36 dollars.
“Thank you.” I took out the money from my purse and handed 36 dollars to the cleaner.
“Have you and James decided to live separately?” Jacob seemed to have found out about something really amusing and sounded surprised.
After hearing those words, all the members of the Somerfield family looked at me.
I turned and glanced at them before giving them a big smile. “That’s right, we’re now living separately. But I’m not going to get a divorce.”

“Come on, baby, let’s head home. I’ll make you some food I picked Laura up in my arms, walked into the house and slammed the door shut with a loud bang.
Someone knocked on the door half an hour later.
I walked to the door and saw that it was Nova, so I decided not to open the door.
She seemed to have guessed what I was thinking and said through the door, “Catherine, I know you’re listening. I came to apologize to you. I’m sorry. Mom, Dad, Luke, and Jacob didn’t want to ruin your marriage with James on purpose. They were just doing it for Brenda. If it’s making you upset, then I can leave with Brenda right now. Brenda, come and apologize to Aunt Catherine.”
“No, I won’t apologize. She took Dad away, she’s a bad woman. I don’t like her,” said Brenda.
“It’s alright, Nova. Brenda is only a child, don’t force her into things,” said Linda.

“Dad! Mom is bullying me,” said Brenda.
There was an uproar outside the house. This caused me to be even more unwilling to open the door.
However, Nova was still knocking on the door continuously
It seemed that she would keep knocking until I opened the door.
I had no choice but to open the door and look at her with cold eyes. “Can I help you?”
Nova smiled. “I’m sorry, Catherine. It’s all my fault…”
I quickly interrupted her. “Nova, don’t you know that as James’s ex–girlfriend, you should leave him alone? Since you can’t forget James, then don’t be so pretentious. You make me sick! Got it?”
“You’ve misunderstood me, Catherine. I’m not…” Tears welled up in Nova’s eyes. “I know I shouldn’t have asked James to pretend to be Brenda’s father, but as a mother, I really can’t just stand there and do nothing as my daughter falls ill. Catherine, you’re a mother as well, you should understand my actions, right?”
I sneered. “I’m sorry, I don’t understand your actions at all. I don’t know what kind of mother would have such an ill–mannered daughter, who keeps on calling someone ‘bad woman‘ or ‘evil woman‘.”
I wasn’t very well educated, but at least Laura had manners. She had never cursed or sworn in her life and she would never draw on other people’s faces. Neither would she start sulking or crying once she didn’t get what she wanted.
Jacob rushed over to me and slapped me in the face. “Who are you calling ill–mannered?”
I didn’t hesitate to slap him back. “Jacob, I dare you to touch me one more time!”
The doctor told me that I should vent my anger on someone or something. That would help me feel better.
As expected, after slapping Jacob, I felt much better.
Linda’s heart ached when she saw Jacob being slapped. She pointed at me and cried, “You ungrateful bastard. We’ve raised you for over 20 years, how dare you slap my son?”
