I closed the door with an indifferent look on my face and then bent down to comfort Laura.
“What’s up, crybaby? Why are you crying again?”
Laura continued sobbing, “Let me give you a rub, Mom. It’ll ease the pain.”
“I’m not in pain at all.” I picked Laura up in my arms and sat down on the sofa.
I began to think that living too close to James wasn’t exactly a good thing
Brenda was really important to the Somerfield family, so they would definitely come to James’s house very often.
Laura would be upset every time they showed up. This might lead to her having mental illnesses in the future. I had to rethink the arrangements for Laura’s future.
On the morning of the next day. I sent Laura to school and went to a charity house to see if Laura could be sent
there after I died.
The manager, Mrs. Brown, told me that Laura was not eligible to be taken in by the charity house.
I cried and begged, “Mrs. Brown, I’m dying. My parents are dead, her father and his parents doesn’t love her at all.
་་
“Ms. Somerfield, I’m sorry, but there’s really nothing I can do to help. We have rules at the charity house as well.” Mrs. Brown frowned.
After walking out of the charity house, my chest was so painful that I could barely breathe.
I squatted down at the side of the road to ease the pain before I headed to the hospital to get some painkillers.
“I’d suggest you be hospitalized as soon as you can, Ms. Somerfield,” said the doctor.
“Doctor, how much longer can I live if I am hospitalized for the treatment?” I asked.
The doctor furrowed his brows. “I can’t really say, because your cancer is at the terminal stage.”
“Thank you. I’ll think about it.”
Knowing that I didn’t have much longer to live, I decided to give up on the treatment.
I wanted to leave the money that I had for Laura.
Even if she didn’t receive any love, she would at least have some money. This meant that she wouldn’t have a really difficult life.
When I went to pick Laura up from nursery in the afternoon, I bumped into James. Only then did I find out that Brenda had transferred to the same nursery as Laura.
He held a lollipop in his hand like a loving father.
Brenda rushed into his arms and shouted happily, “Wow, you’ve got me a lollipop, Dad! You’re the best!”
The other children around them were all quite jealous.
