Chapter 7
I took a bite of my sandwich, expressionless, then raised my hand.
“Security”
Two guards responded immediately.
“This woman seems to be mentally unstable. Please take care of it.”
She was dragged away, kicking and screaming, and by the end of the day, my adoptive mother had called me more than ten times.
I didn’t answer a single one.
Instead, I told my senior researcher that I’d be staying at the institute and buried myself in the lab.
It wasn’t until our project reached a temporary conclusion that I heard the news that Stacy was dead.
My adoptive mother used the excuse of a final “family dinner” in her honor to lure me home.
Then, she and my adoptive father killed me.
I jolted awake.
Moonlight streamed through the window, casting a silver glow across the room.
The phantom pain of my skull shattering under a baseball bat still lingered in my bones.
I stared at the crescent moon for a long moment before curling my lips into a smile.
“There won’t be a next time.”
After the school got involved, Nicholas finally stopped openly bullying the other students.
