me“?
All those times he found excuses to go for a nightly jog but was exercising on Robyn’s bed instead. Or when he complained about how ugly I was or how I smelled after I got pregnant.
Was he hung up on me then? Seemed more like he was hanging me out to dry.
A month later, my mother booked me some flight tickets and had my brother escort me onto the plane.
“Go out for some fresh air. If you see something you like, have your brother buy it for you.”
I actually wanted to tell her that I was feeling much better and that my mood was surprisingly serene. But seeing as how sad my brother was, I could not find it in me to say no.
We took a trip to Yorksville. On the trip, I found Leonard staring blankly at Robyn’s social media page every so
often.
But he had been blocked and could not see anything but her profile picture. And it was like this had turned into a
thorn in his side.
I patted him on the shoulder and handed him a can of beer.
“Don’t punish yourself for other people’s mistakes. Someone even better will see how great you are.”
Leonard sighed and then murmured to me, “Is having children really that scary? What the heck is that bastard Shane even thinking?”
I had thoroughly ran this question through my head, and had sporadically tried to find the answer from within our marriage too.
In the end, I gave up.
“What’s wrong isn’t having children or getting married, but the person himself. Whether he did it all on a whim, or he had been planning it all along, he was the one at fault.“‘
I had let it go. Trusting in the wrong person was not anything new in the world after all.
After we returned from Yorksville, I heard that both Shane and Robyn had resigned. At least, that was the official statement.
The truth was, they could not stand all the criticisms thrown their way, but they also had such a negative impact on their workplace, they were fired one after the other.
Since there were no disputes with assets, I just arranged a time with Shane to go to the courthouse.
When he arrived, Robyn also got out of the car along with him. Her head was held high like she was the victor, and

Shane’s eyebrows furrowed, and he hurriedly flung her arm off before stalking inside. She then ran up to me and
latched on to me instead.
“Miley, you can’t go ahead with the divorce like this.”
Shane froze, then said impatiently, “Go wait for me in the car.”
She refused.
“You don’t have a stable job right now either, so why should you have to leave empty–handed?”
She then placed her hand on her belly and gave it a gentle caress before turning to look back at me.
“Miley is by herself, so how much expenses can she have? Unlike the two of us who will need a lot of money very soon.”
I nodded. “We’ve indeed accumulated quite a bit over the years–our car, the apartment, savings.”
She glanced at me, and her voice softened a little.
“Shane has always been so hard–working. You wouldn’t want him to have nothing at all when he’s nearly middle- aged, right?”
“What has this got to do with me?” I chuckled.
“Hard–working or not, this is all your business now.”
Upon hearing that, she got so angry that she wanted to grab onto me yet again, but I stealthily evaded her.
Our divorce papers were finally officialized. Shane stared at the stamp on the papers, and his fingers ran over it in a tremble.
A tear fell onto the documents. He raised his head and looked at me a little despondently. “Miley, how did we come to this?”
