Harold shoved her away, ignoring her confession. “It’s all your fault that Minerva has the wrong idea about me. Don’t touch me!”
Ivory was in disbelief as she fell to the ground. Then, she glared daggers at me, “You’re a bitch, Minerva! You’re the one who’s behind this, aren’t you? Why else would Harry treat me like this?”
Harold slapped her as soon as the words were out of her mouth. “Who allowed you to speak to Minerva like that? You don’t deserve to do that!”
She cupped her red cheek, looking heartbroken. He turned to me, looking like he wanted me to praise him. ” You’ve always hated Ivory, haven’t you, Minerva? I’ve taught her a lesson on your behalf. I won’t ever give her the chance to come near me anymore, so
1 slapped him hard and looked at him in disgust. “You’d better watch yourself if hurting women is all you can do.” He gaped at me, unable to believe what had just happened said, “You disgust me, Harold.”

Chapter 8
He turned ashen. He couldn’t take it anymore and crouched on the ground with his face in his hands. He howled with misery.
The havoc was finally over.
I later heard that Ivory had been so furious over Harold’s betrayal that she’d threatened him with a knife. He’d accidentally injured her in a tussle, disfiguring her.
Her family had forced him to marry her, which he’d done. They became a bitter couple, and their life was chaoti not that I cared.
Time flew, and the seasons changed. Everything started afresh. I’d already gotten used to life in Cordon City.
One day, Sean invited me out for a meal. I vaguely sensed that he wanted to confess his feelings for me. Yes, I’d belatedly realized that he’d had a crush on me since middle school. I only learned about it during a reunion, though.
Looking at him with my newfound realization made me notice how differently he treated me compared to everyone else.
It turned out he wasn’t willing to help just about anyone. In fact, he was mostly polite but distant. He also made sure not to get involved with other women.
His social media had only ever been for my eyes, and I heard from others that he’d never dated anyone.
I couldn’t help wondering somewhat narcissistically whether it was because he was waiting for me.
Sean was patient. He didn’t say a word about his feelings even after our meal, a movie, and some shopping. If not for the fact that he seemed to be walking extremely slowly along the path that would take me home, I would think this was just a simple night out with a friend.
He finally caved when I was almost at my apartment. He asked, “Can you give me a chance, Minerva?”
I wanted to tease him when I saw how resolute he was. “Hmm? What are you talking about?”
Sean flushed and raised his voice. “I want a chance to pursue you! I know you’ve experienced a horrible relationship; you might not have moved on from it yet. I can wait, though.”
I didn’t say anything and merely eyed him. He gulped nervously, his gaze turning aggrieved the longer I remained silent.
It was only when he looked like he was about to cry that I relented and smiled. I held out a hand and said, Congratulations on your new position, boyfriend.”
None of us knew what our futures would be like, but I knew I had to learn to follow my heart and seize the
moment.
I felt like a better future was in store for me.
