Next, I coordinated their funeral date with the shainan.
Once everything was in place, I sent out their obituary to relatives and friends, informing them of the funeral date.
Two days before the funeral, I
Ved a phone call from the mortuary.
“Ma’am, Mr. Leo has been here for the past few days. Could you please come take him home? It’s becoming difficult for us to work with him here.”
I went to the mortuary, where I found Leo lying on the floor in a pitiful state. His eyes were bloodshot, and his hair had turned completely white.
There was also a scar on his forehead, likely from repeatedly banging his head against something.
The staff member whispered, “He was devastated when he saw their bodies. Afterward, he began banging his head against the wall like a madman until he started bleeding. Then, he fell to his knees and slapped himself.
“It took several security guards just to stop him from hurting himself. He’s been lying here ever since, refusing to eat or drink.”
Leo was still on the floor, staring at me. “Do you hate me, Lyra?”
I didn’t answer his question. Instead, I said, “They called me to say you’re disrupting their work. I’m here to take you home.”
He reached out his hand, probably expecting me to help him up, but I stayed where I was.
“Their funeral is in two days. I’ve already sent out the obituary and decided where they’ll be buried. You should go home and rest. We have a ceremony to attend tomorrow,” informed him.
Leo looked at me and asked, “Can we not annul our bond?”
I couldn’t help but laugh despite the disappointment in his eyes. “I don’t love you anymore, and I’m leaving.”
“Cheryl’s the one who insisted on spending Valentine’s Day together. I was tricked by her,” he said. “Cheryl’s the one who insisted on spending Valentine’s Da
Trying to comfort him like one would a child, I said, “It’s okay. I don’t blame you for that. Cheryl can take my place and be your Luna. You two don’t have to hide anymore once we annul our bond.”
Leo didn’t say anything and got up from the floor.
After returning home, he took a shower and fell asleep.
I slept in the guest room and was woken by a sheriff the next morning.
“Ma’am, Cheryl’s dead. Mr. Leo killed her in the woods. But he’s nowhere to be found right now.”
Soon after, the ́s arrived again and told me that all the abductors had been apprehended.

Cheryl may have been the mastermind, but her original intent was only to abduct my in–laws to create a rift between Leo and me, so we would annul our bond.
However, one of the abductors, who was madly infatuated with Cheryl, believed that Victor and Vera had looked down on her because of who she was. This led him to force Cheryl to leave Leo the first time.
The abduction was meant to be a sham, but this particular abductor murdered them in a fit of revenge, spurred by Cheryl’s constant complaints.
Leo went missing and didn’t attend his parents‘ funeral.
Afterward, I went back to my parents‘ place to rest for a few days.
When I returned home, the sheriffs told me that the Feral Rogues‘ leader had caught Leo, and they needed to rescue him from deep in the woods.
Kael also approached me, asking me to come with him to negotiate with the leader, but I refused.
Two weeks later, the sheriff called again. The Feral Rogues had sent a video showing Leo, severely tortured and near death.
Leo later requested a video call with me, which I accepted.
He looked so thin that his eyelids had sunken into his eye sockets. His white hair, combined with his gaunt appearance, made him look like a man in his 60s, though he was still in his 20s.
After a long silence, he finally spoke. “I’ve been poisoned with Wolfsbane, Lyra. I’m going to die in two days at most.”
He likely expected me to panic and beg him not to die, but instead, I was reminded of a time when he was injured in a fight while I was still in school.
I had panicked so much that I spent an entire month’s allowance on medicine for him, living on wild vegetables and water for about 20 days.
This time, however, I didn’t give him the reaction he wanted.
He knew that the little girl who had once climbed a cliff to harvest the medicine that saved his life was no longer there.
“I’m sorry, Lyra.”
I remained silent.
“I know I deserve all this, and I should go to hell for what I’ve done to you.”
A slight frown crossed my face as I felt a wave of disgust, not wanting to listen any longer. “Is that all?”
Just as I was about to disconnect the call, he panicked. “I’m sorry, Lyra! I don’t want to annul our bond! I don’t want you to leave me!
“It was Cheryl! She tricked me! I thought I’d killed her last time, but she faked her death and took the ransom money to live her life!
“I’m sorry, Lyra! I real am! Please! Will you let me make it up to you in our next life?”

I looked at Leo and remembered a time when he’d looked at me with cold, predatory eyes, like a wild animal ready to tear apart its prey.
I closed my eyes slowly, then opened them to look at him one last time. “I’m going to have a shaman annul our bond before you die, Leo, I’m not going to be your widow. You don’t deserve it.”
Without another word, I ended the call and threw my phone away.
That afternoon, I went to the shaman, asked for a potion to annul our bond, and drank it without hesitation.
A week later, we received Leo’s remains.
I sold the house and was preparing to leave the country with the money Victor and Vera had left me. Meanwhile, David had to sell his house and cars to pay off his debts to the pack before he could become the next Alpha.
With the money in my hands, I set off for the next chapter of my life as a free werewoman.
