Rhianne’s shoulders quivered as she cowered in fear. Usually, her vulnerability would prompt her big brother to side with her.
But this time, he merely glanced at her and said, “Ives and El grew up together, Rhianne. They’re true childhood sweethearts. Their bond is not something you can force your way into. Don’t worry about it. I’ll check in on him.”
With that, he grabbed his coat and left. Rhianne timidly trailed after him but had no other option than to watch him drive off. Without a license, she was powerless.
The night soon passed, and staff at the research institute began arriving at work,
Ivor managed to pull himself together and bring in a pile of gifts. There were food, games, and even a birthday present he had carefully chosen.
He had made up his mind–I was the only one he loved. Today, he had come with the intention to confess and apologize.
He now realized how muddled he had been. It was silly of him to have stubbornly pitied Rhianne, believing that I deserved whatever I endured.

As the clock struck ten, the institute was about to close its gate when Jonathan noticed Ivor standing by the entrance. Having observed everything that had transpired lately, he understood the situation better than anyone.
“Here to apologize? I figured as much, knowing how much you used to dote on El. I didn’t think you would abandon her over something as superficial as her identity! The Rhetts don’t lack a marriage alliance for money anyway. However, I’m afraid you’re a little too late. El is no longer here.”
The director was the one person who had witnessed our love firsthand. He always felt it was a shame and had tried on multiple occasions to talk me out of my decision.
However, it was all too late now.
“Dr. Hensley, do you know where El has gone? I’ve searched everywhere she might be, but have had no luck. Her phone is unreachable, too. Is she mad at me? Please, let me see her. I know I was wrong. I wasn’t thinking straight, and I’ve treated her unfairly. I’m working on it, I promise.”
Tears started to roll down Ivor’s cheeks as he spoke, his emotions spilling out uncontrollably.
