Chapter 24
After a moment of silence, Stelan awkwardly apologized, “Alyssa, it’s my fault for doing you wrong. I shouldn’t have gotten involved with other women.
I made Juliette have an abortion, and I got rid of her. Please, forgive me, I’ll do anything. Just don’t leave me!”
Despite how desperately he pleaded, Alyssa remained calm. She smiled gently and slowly said, “Alright, I forgive you.”
This unexpected answer sent Stefan’s head spinning.
“Really?” he quickly asked before he could fully grasp the meaning behind her words.
Alyssa sneered. “Isn’t this the answer you wanted? I’m not holding anything against you anymore. I forgive you. Are you satisfied now? If you are, then
let’s end it here.”
It was just one word of forgiveness, and if he wanted to hear it as much as he wanted, she’d give it to him. But if he thought they could go back to how things were, that would never happen.
A broken mirror could never be restored. Even if its pieces were glued together, it would never return to its original state.
Having said that, Alyssa decisively Ining up the phone, not giving Stefan another chance to apologize. After all, she had once said that it wouldn’t matter to her even if he killed himself if she no longer loved him.
Stefan belatedly remembered her words,
“Lyssa, I’ll buy you the rice pudding you like. Will you forgive me? He persistently sent a message to Alyssa.
Soon after, she replied, “I don’t like it anymore.
How could she have stopped liking it?
Stefan could barely hold his phone in his trembling hands.
How could Alyssa stop loving him?
He was about to send another message when he realized he had been blocked again.
Though he had received Alyssa’s verbal forgiveness, Stefan didn’t feel the slightest relief.
Alyssa clearly knew that this wasn’t the ending Stefan wanted. Yet, she had told him that she didn’t love him anymore.
Stefan had truly broken Alyssa’s heart.
He had never been so painfully aware of this truth.
Perhaps, he had known the moment Alyssa left. He had just been fooling himself, pretending not to notice as he told himself that Alyssa still loved him and was simply waiting for him to apologize.
His heart ached, as it a knife had pierced it. He could no longer see a future between him and Alyssa
How could he ever win her back? Even he didn’t know
Meeting her again felt like an impossible task, let alone begging for her forgiveness.
Alyssa grew tired of the constant barrage of calls to her phone. Eventually, frustrated and unable to stand it any longer, she deactivated her number and
got a new one.
Not wanting Stefan to find her again, she decided to fly to Damona.
The world was so wast, and finding one person in it was like searching for a needle in a haystack–it was nearly impossible.
As Stefan was gearing up to chase after Alyssa again, his company back home suddenly faced some issues.
After Juliette had the abortion, she nearly lost her mind. The internet was rife with hate directed at her, and in real life, people turned their backs on her. Wherever she went, disdainful glares followed her.
She couldn’t find work and could barely keep herself fed. The gifts Stefan had once given her–bags, jewelry, a house–had all been cruelly taken back.
Her bank account no longer covered the high–end lifestyle she was accustomed to. She was truly at her wit’s end.
In desperation, Juliette made a bold decision. She filed a formal report accusing Stefan of tax evasion and embezzling public funds.
She joined forces with several families who had been suppressed by the Splenstones, banding together to target them.
