If it weren’t for you and your pack, Saya and I could’ve lived happily ever after, basking in the admiration of the entire wolf clan!”
I scoffed. I would love to see how he and Saya planned on spending their lives in bliss and receive such admiration.
Inside an exclusive private club, wine flowed freely.
“The wolf kingdom territory on the southeastern frontier does indeed have endless potential,” an elder from the Whiteclaw Pack swirled his drink, his gaze sharp.
“But Prince Ryan, bringing along that lowborn mute girl–that doesn’t seem appropriate, does it?”
“What’s wrong with that? Prince Ryan wants to break tradition and bring his new fiancee into the inner workings of the wolf kingdom. Maybe that’s a good thing.”
“Is this what you meant by the ‘good show‘?” Alaric’s voice was low, with a playful edge to
- it.
I raised an eyebrow and took a sip of my red wine. “It’s hardly just that.”
“You’re truly beautiful, Selina. Some people must be blind not to see it,” Alaric suddenly said with a grin.
I looked up at him.
Alaric was indeed handsome, especially when he smiled.
For the past few months, we had shared drinks and conversations, and the time spent together had been more comfortable than I had expected.
I gazed at him, and Alaric glanced at my glass before leaning in to refill it.
The wolf kingdom’s eldest prince–strong, handsome, intelligent, kind–how could he have died so young?
“Not talking much today?” he asked, glancing at me as he poured the wine.
It wasn’t that I was silent. I was thinking about Ryan’s words, about how he said Alaric was nothing but a fool.
“Hey,” I said, grabbing his tie. “Can you even get it up?”
Alaric set the wine bottle down, then grabbed my chin gently.
“Want to give it a try?”

I maintained my dignity as a princess, of course. But if Alaric couldn’t handle something as basic as securing an heir, wouldn’t all my careful planning be for nothing?
A month later, the “good show” I promised Alaric finally unfolded.
Ryan was in the midst of crucial territorial negotiations. He flew out to the Silver Moon region personally to negotiate with the wolf pack elders from the frontier.
Of course, Saya went along with him, under the guise of “broadening her horizons.”
In Silver Moon, an “unexpected” incident led to a heated argument between Ryan and Saya. Furious, Saya stormed off, returning to the wolf kingdom alone and leaving Ryan behind.
Ryan planned to wrap up negotiations quickly and follow her, but Saya wasted no time stirring up trouble back home. She spread dramatic claims about his “wandering heart” and “abuse of power” throughout the wolf kingdom.
