Chapter 115
I came home late, exhaustion settling deep in my bones, but my mind was still wired from the day. The office had been a mess of back–to–back. mertimes, security briefings, and client demands.
Running an elite security firm meant every day brought a new crisis–some high–profile client demanding airtight protection, a glitch in our surveillance systems that needed immediate troubleshooting, or, as was the case today, negotiating an urgent contract with a European diplomat who wanted an entire team stationed around his family 24/7.
Apain throbbed behind my eyes as 1 rolled my shoulders. My assistant had droned on about some logistical issues–something about new recruits being slow with their tactical training. I’d made a mental note to deal with it tomorrow.
Then there were the Petrovs, pushing for an early meeting. The last thing I needed was to deal with their paranoia–fueled security concerns over lunch, but that’s what I’d signed up for.
The penthouse was dimly lit when I stepped inside, the familiar silence greeting me. For a second, I thought Erica had already gone to sleep. Good. Maybe I could get through one night without her testing my patience.
I entered my bedroom, running a hand over my face before unbuttoning the top buttons of my shirt. The tension in my muscles begged for a hot shower. I moved toward my closet when a soft sound made me pause.
The sound of running water.
In my bathroom.
I frowned. That was definitely the shower. I turned my head and noticed something that hadn’t been there this morning–clothes. Neatly folded but unmistakably feminine.

Before I could fully register what was happening, the door to my bathroom swung open, steam billowing out. And then

Krica stepped out. Water dripped from her long, damp hair, glistening against the smooth skin of her shoulders. She was wrapped in one of any towels. White. Too fucking short. The edges barely reached mid–thigh, leaving her long, toned legs completely exposed.
Heat coiled low in my gut, sharp and immediate. Something primal, something dark and territorial surged through me so fast it nearly knocked the air out of my lungs.

She shrieked when she saw me standing there. “Jesus Christ Make some noise, will you? Standing there like a thief

I wasn’t about to let her walk through my penthouse in just a towel with Max in the living room. That was the last thing I needed. I didn’t trust the hastard not to look, even if I knew he wouldn’t be stupid enough to try anything.
Erica shrugged in a “as you wish” gesture. I turned on my heel, stepped out, and shut the door behind me, exhaling sharply. My fingers instinctively found my temples, rubbing at the tension building there
What the fuck was wrong w
with me!
The sight of her like that had done something to me, something dangerous. It was bad enough that I already noticed too much about her–how she smelled like roses, how her lips curved when she was amused, how her voice softened when she was caught off guard.
I was more bothered with her presence than I should be. Not even a week had passed that she moved in here and she was already everywhere, messing with my thoughts and getting under my skin
Now my damn bathroom probably smelled like her.

A minute later, the door opened, and she stepped out, fully dressed. The scent of fresh roses hit me again, stronger this time, lingering in the air

I took in her appearance–she wore a dress, one that hugged her frame in all the right places. My jaw clenched as my eyes trailed down to her bare legs, then back up to her face. She seemed completely unaware of the effect she had, which only made it worse.
I wanted to push her against the nearest wall and get a taste of those lips, ravage her mouth.
Fuck. I hardly restrained myself from physically jerking away at the sudden thought. When did I start fantasizing about Erica fucking Davis?

She gave a shon nod before walking off. I stood there, watching the sway of her hips as she disappeared down the hallway.
