Chapter 17
Free free for the briefest of seconds before jerking out of his hold. I was already on my feet, heading straight towards them. White hot fury scorched my insides as 1 shoved a few people out the way while the rest scurried aside.
*— Don’t play hard to get 1 caught the last part which was accompanied by a scoff. Fucker. So full of himself!
The girl Freya had walked in with, probably a friend, took one step forward and glared at him. “Get the fuck away before I kick you in the tecil
“Tud I ask you?” He sneered at her before directing his attention back to Freya. He had managed to take only a step in her direction when I reached Jum and grabbed him by his shirt.
He tried twisting his head to get a look at who just stopped him from groping a girl on the dance floor. The image of this asshole putting his hand on Treva made me fucking furious. 1 landed a punch against his face. Blood trickled down his fingers that were now guarding his broken nose.
“Which part of ‘no‘ do you not understand?” From the murmurs breaking out, I knew we were garnering quite the attention.
“It’s none of your business, dude.” He snarled.
Hr had a fucking death wish.
I took a menacing step in his direction and wrapped my hand around his throat. The blood roared in my ears loud enough to drown everything ehe. I tightened my grip, wanting nothing more than to choke him to death.
You’re
going to walk
out of here right now. My voice was too calm, a contrast to the hot burning anger inside of me. Even though I warned him to walk out, I didn’t wanna let go of my hold around his throat. It would be a split second decision tur I didn’t want him alive to see another day.
I let go with a shove. His face was red as he greedily inhaled. It took him only a few seconds to pull himself on his feet and run out of the club. As 1 saw his retreating back, something close to regret hit me. I should have killed him.
My head whipped back towards Freya. She seemed somewhat in shock at the recent altercations.
“Are you find!” There. 1 had her attention. She looked up at me with those serene green orbs and I felt some of that anger leaving my body. Her eyes were expiressive. She was clearly overwhelmed by the situation. Before she answered my question her eyes shifted to something behind me and this time when they were back on me, something hostile burned in them.
“I am capable enough to protect myself. You didn’t have to play the white knight.” Freya snapped
I concealed every emotion on my face with a neutral expression and stared at her, Judging by the way the friend elbowed Freya, it wasn’t just me who found that reaction odd
She held my stare, refusing to back off but the reason behind the anger burning in her eyes was unknown to me. The crowd that was premously gathered around us to enjoy the spectacle was now dissipating. Finally an awkward cough from Cilian made us break eye contact.
“Freya, right? I’m Erica Erica chirped, oblivious to the tension or not caring enough. I saw Freya force a smile on her lips and nod at her. She didn’t look very interested in knowing who she was but that hardly dampened Erica’s mood, She rather smiled big like she was promised a date to the fucking amusement park.
“I need to go home.” Freya turned towards the brunette. The latter gauged her face before shrugging.
“I’ll drive you home.” My words were met with immediate rejection-
She didn’t even turn around while blatantly refusing my offer, “No, thank you.”
There was no fucking way I was letting her leave in a cab, especially when she looked that irresistible. I forced myself not to think about how she got bere. I would rather not have my blood pressure skyrocket.
“I didn’t ask.”
My voice had probably sounded calm on the surface but the lethal undertone couldn’t be easily missed. A note of finality. Freya didn’t miss either. Her head whipped towards me in an instam, lips thinned in annoyance. She sent a hard glare my way.
“Well you should make a habit of it because I don’t take orders from you”
I mentally groaned. Why did she have to be so stubborn everytime! While I did enjoy the tire in her, at the moment ensuring her safety was my priority.

i dropping you home.”
She opened her mouth, most likely to retort when her friend cut in
We would love that. Thank yem”
A right turn. I used the opportunity to steal a glance at Freya A few long strands of blonde hair brushed her cheeks. She had insisted that the windows he rolled down Fresh air, she had said but the air was fucking freezing
But she seemed to care less. She had been staring out of the window throughout the entirety of the ride except for the few seconds when we dropped Reyna who had been very silent as well. There was nothing I appreciated more than pesceful silence but Reyna’s quiet has been for an
entirely different reason.
She had been observing us, me to be specific, paying attention to every non–verbal exchange between me and Freya, which hadn’t been a lot, but she noted it all. That could come out of pure concern and 1 was glad that Freya had someone looking out for her, besides me now.

For the fifth time during this ride, I looked at her. She stared outside the window with such intensity as if she was imagining herself in a sad music
video.
“You’ll catch a cold” My words filled the silence between us. Never thought I would see the day when I would develop an aversion to peaceful silence. But there I was
Her soft voice came a m
came a moment later. “Better than catching feelings I guess.
“What?” I gritted out. Catching feelings? For whom? Anyone except me was unacceptable. Already her so–called boyfriend was in the picture and I had to find a way to kick him out of it
“Nothing”
I tamped down my urge to push her for answers. Another day. I pulled to the side, a few feet away from her place, like she had wanted last time. A familiar surge of irritation grated at my nerves,
“Did you talk to your boyfriend?” I asked, gripping the steering hard. Out of my peripheral vision I saw Freya’s head making a painfully slow turn towards me. She was searching my face for thoughts.
“Not yet.” I turned my face to the side and our gazes locked. Her lips faltered slightly before she rushed to explain. “I will. First thing tomorrow morning
“I pick Gia up for school tomorrow. 1 let her know. She had been delaying it far too much for my liking. Well, had it been on me, I would have buried him six feet under the very first day. That would save her a lot of trouble but she probably wouldn’t have appreciated it much.
“Okay” Her answer came after long moments of deliberation. She unlocked the seat belt. “Good night, Mr. Knight.” She was trying to keep the relationship formal, keep me at a distance. Well I refused to accept that.
“Good night, Freya
