Aiden put Gia in the car seat. He had the car seat installed the day after we had moved in
I settled into the passenger seat as he started the engine. I tried to get it out of him about where we were going. He only shook his head denying to spoil the surprise, so I left it at that and stared out of the window, I realized what the surprise was once I registered that he had pulled in front of a dog shelter
He was making good on his promise he had made to Gia that day in the park, He was getting her a dog. I was still a little lost in my thoughts when Aiden helped her out of the car. We walkeil in and a woman with a kind smile met us hulfway.
“We want to adopt a puppy.”
Aiden’s statement made Gia’s eyes widen like saucers. She looked between our faces, still not believing what she heard.
“There are some really beautiful babies. Im sure you will like one of them. The lady took us to where the puppies were. That’s when Gia finally caught on.
“Oh my God! Will we get a puppy?” She squeaked, a bright smile breaking out on her face.
“Yes” Aiden grinned right back at her, making her jump on spot out of pure excitement.
“Can I choose?” Her happiness was barely contained when she received the nod of approval from Rylan. The lady guided her towards the puppies who were just as excited to meet new people, their little rails wagging.
When Gia was busy petting those adorable little babies, Aiden turned to face me. I realized 1 hadn’t spoken until now, caught in a trance. This gesture of his, it meant so much to me.
“This it’s really thoughtful of you.” My words came out a little choked.
Aiden raised a brow. “I promised Gia”
It probably seemed like an over reaction to him. After all, Aslen was her father. It was normal for him to do something like that but the thing with me was that I had grown to expect the least and worst from everyone. So to see that my daughter had the father that I could only dream of made something shift inside me
I shook my head. “Thank you.”
His inquisitive eyes softened as he smiled at me. Gia’s joyful squeal cut through the moment. Our heads snapped to see her getting her face licked. by a labrador retriever pup while another one of those were on her lap.
“Did you make a decision?” I crouched down beside her. She pulled her lips between her teeth and stared up with a sheepish look.
“Can we take both of them?”
“Yep! I guessed it.
“Two small puppies together are a lot of work sweetheart.” I apologetically similed at her while rubbing the head of the puppy on her lap. Not only did two small puppies demand a whole lot of time and care, we were currently staying at Aiden’s house. He had agreed to one but 1 wasn’t sure how comfortable he would be with another pup.
“Mommy, please! I love both of them. Please, Mommy!”
Fuck! This was difficult. Looking at the face she was pulling and telling her no. She turned to Alden and offered him her best puppy face.
“Please Aiden! Can we take both! Please!

moment Aiden carved. It was difficult to not melt at that face but something in the look in his eyes told me he didn’t at all intend to refuse Gu in the first place
“We can.” He smiled at Gia
“Krally!!” Gia uguraled, grinning from ear to ear before returning her complete attention to her new friends. Alden stared at me with a hint of sheepish look that was so errily similar to our daughter’s
I sighed “Right. You promised her.”

“Well manage.”
Just two words and so casually spoken. It left me at a Intle loss for an appropriate reply. It sounded so awfully intimate, like we had all the time in the world to train our puppies. It sounded like we were a family. My heart constricted painfully. Would Lever be able to get that) A family? Would 1 be ever able to give Gia that!
“Besides, Carlos is there to help Aiden reassured, mistaking my lack of response to be stress
I snickered “Right! Carlos seems like someone who would be ecstatic about dog poop”
Aiden’s eyes narrowed slightly like he was trying to imagise Carlos with the puppies. It did bring out a smile out of him.
Texhaled. “But seriously, thank you. Thaven’t seen her this happy in days.” Both of our eyes shifted to Gia. I took in her glowing face. She was giddy with happiness, I looked back at Aiden. “Tiri just glad that she found her way to you.”.
Something flared in those brown orbs, strong and intense before he spoke words which rendered me speechless,
“I’m glad that you both found your way to me
His words were spoken with so much conviction like he meant what he said. I stared at him, tongue-tied. What was I supposed to make of this? Did he actually mean-
“Can we take them home?” I was grateful that Avak cherry voice cut through before I would go ahead and read more into his probably casually spoken words.
