Chapter 35
AIDEN
“They do need names. Freya said, lowering the puppy
puppy in her arms to the floor of our living space. I thrust my hands inside my pocket and watched Gia followw her lead before sitting down on the ground right beside them. While the one with the chocolate fur sat in its place, the golden one sniffed around before making itself comfortable in Gia’s lap. She was way more clingy compared to her companion.
“Can I name them?” Gia asked, not looking up from her new friends.
Yes, of course. Have you thought of any?” I crouched down and petted the quiter one.
“Mint chocolate chip? Freya raised a brow while I pressed my lips together to check the smile.
“That’s too long, don’t you think? A small cute name would fit better Gia stared at her mother with a contemplative gaze and pouty lips. Of course she thought it was a brilliant idea to name her dogs after ice cream flavours, Seconds passed before she again cheered up.
The girl loved all things sweet. It wasn’t a surprise that her dogs were getting named after desserts.
Freya sighed, smiling. “Sounds good. And for her?”
Took Gla another ren seconds before she came up with a name, “Brownel”
Brownie whined softly from where she was seated
Freya shook her head, smiling. Beautiful names.
Lehuckled, drawing Freya’s attention. From her face, she had found it just as hilarious. Just then Carlos made an appearance. He did a double take at the puppies, before his lips flattened in displeasure.
“Carlos! Meet Oreo and Brownie.” Cia looked up gleefully at him, probably expecting him to share the similar kind of excitement. It was debatable, which one was funnier, the names of the dogs or the visible distress on Carlos‘ face which he was doing a poor job of hiding
“They are welcome as long as they don’t pee on the expensive carpets and leave scratch marks on the expensive furniture.
He offered a tight–lipped smile before he went on to adjust the cushions on the couch. Gia didn’t look impressed by his lack of enthusiasm. With furrowed brows, she turned towards me and spoke in a hushed voice.
“He doesn’t like Oreo and Brownie?”
1 smiled. “They
They will grow on him, Sweetheart. Don’t worry.”
My words were met with an immediate scoff from Carlos. He shook his head like he couldn’t imagine a day when he would take a liking to them. Frankly I couldn’t envision that either. Carlos had been a grump, ever since my childhood days. Always mentally judging the fuck out of others and grumpily doing all the work
Gu nodded and returned her attention to Oreo and Brownic. “I love them.” She mustered but the previous glint of excitement was missing from her eyes. She looked sad.
Fuck! I would have to talk to Carlos. I didn’t want my daughter sad and for that if need be, he would have to pretend to like the damn puppies, I was second away from asking Carlos to talk to me outside when Gia looked up at her mother.
“What will happen when you find a house? Will we leave them here?”
Istilled My daughter’s words rang in my ears
in on Freya. She had surely felt my stare
Did I hear that correct or was 1 too sleep deprived? Find a fucking house looked up, my eyes sharpening in o burning a hole into the side of her face, if the hurried glance to the side was any indication.
“Probably yes. But don’t be sad. You will probably be here every other day. So you get to play with them, right?”
That did a shit job at churrring Gia up. Instead, she looked even more upset and stressed. “But I always want to stay with them, she pointed at the proposes before booking up at mur. “And I also want to stay with Aident
My heart faulded against my chest. Elation at the fact thuat Gia wanted to be with me slammed against the surge of annoyance risiring inside me

Chapter 35
“Mommy can we please stay heret” Gia’s words came out wobbly, tears welling up in her eyes, I closed my eyes shut for a quick second trying to lose some of the aggravation
“Gia. Come here. My voice was entirely too calm, a total contrast to the chaos inside me. The thought of Freya leaving with our daughter had my insides twisting with unease. I felt the need to fucking destroy something but first I wanted to soothe Gia.
She walked up to me and looked at my face, a single fat tear rolling down her cheek. I hated seeing tears on her face, I decided. I wiped it off using the pad of my thumb before kneeling down to reach her height.
“You will stay here, Princess.
“Aiden!” Freya hissed but I made no effort to look at her,
-You
right here with Oreo, Brownie, me and your Mom
will stay ri
I told her, intending to follow through my words. Six years had spent with just the thoughts of Freya unknowingly I missed five years of my daughter’s life. Freya would be delusional in think I was going to let her slip through my fingers this easily.
“Forever?” Gia asked, staring up at me with equal anunts of hope and uncertainty. She looked at me like I had the power to give her something priceless. My heart threatened to burst with foreign emotions. A few more teardrops fell. I held her face between my arms and wiped them away.
“Forever” I promised. She threw her arms around my neck and hugged me. I hugged her right back stroking her hack soothingly. All this time i could feel Freya’s stare on my face.
When Gia finally pulled back, I smoothened a few stray curls of her hair. She flashed me a wide grin, automatically drawing a smile out of me. I stood up and ruffled her hair.
“Go to your room, Sweetheart. Your Mom and 1 are going to talk
