Chapter 43
FREYA
I was like a maze, this house. Getting a tour of the place was a full blown workout. A person could probably lie dead in one corner and no one would know for days but of course there was the staff. I lost count of how many maids I saw running up and down the place. Who needs these many househelpst
“God! This place is huge. How do you not get lost! I can’t believe you guys grew up here.” I said once we stopped at the second floor balcony overlooking the living room. Cillian leaned against the pillar. He smiled absent–mindedly.
“Yeah, well

He dragged his eyes to my face. “I don’t?” He raised a brow
“No. I’m not your brother’s girlfriend or something. It was true. He didn’t have an obligation to keep me entertained or to go out of his way to be friendly

voice. His half smile half smirk said the same thing
He probably failed to understand that what I said wasn’t a compliment since his lips stretched in a wide grin.
“Women call me a lot of things. Annoying isn’t one of them” He spoke with a cocky grin. I couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped me.
“Was that you trying to fliri!” Lasked, amused. He was undeniably handsome, all these Knight men were. Gillian was good–looking in a conventional way, expressive eyes, charming smile, dimples. That was a stark contrast to Aiden who was lethally gorgeous in an icy, brooding way. My attraction to him should be telling of why I was immune to Cillian’s charm.
vious attraction to Aiden Knight. Not like it wasn’t clear already. This was as far as I could go deluding myself
Yeah, okay. I was admitting in my obvious to believe otherwise.
Cillian chuckled, giving a light shake of his head. “I wouldn’ì dire. As surprising as it may sound, I would very much like to live.”
“What?” I frowned, not quite catching on to what he meant by that. He however wasn’t quite into the conversation as he was seconds ago Something down there in the living had his attention.
He tapped his thumb against the railing before turning to me. “We should go back down there. Come on.”
Even though confused by the sudden shift in his mood, I followed him downstairs. Last few steps down the stairs, I heard a woman’s voice, a familiar.onc
Erica. Aiden’s friend and colleague. She was here.
Aiden and her had to be pretty tight for her to be called into family dinners. That knowledge might have managed to dampen my mood a tad bit. It was stupid really. It’s not like I was his girlfriend or something. We were just co–parenting.
Yet, somehow this time the same thought burned more than it did minutes a

Aiden’s eyes found me as I took the final step down. He stood at a distance nursing a drink while Erica talked to Mr. Knight.

“Well you called, Uncle Preston” At that Mr. Knight smiled, the comer of his eyes crinkling. In just a few seconds 1 witnessed more warmth in his expression than when he was greeting his own son.
Erica smiled wide once she saw me at the foot of the stair. “Freya! Hey!” She took gorgeous, way too pretty. On top of that she was annoyingly kindl

Chapter 43
As everyone moved towards what I supposed was the dining hall, Aiden came up to me. His eyes raked over me
“You okay!” | sfidn’t know how to feel about the concern in his eyes. I offered a small smile, waiting to get this dinner over with

Okay this was at a solid two in history of most awkward dinners I have ever attended, the first one being when my parents had foural out pregnant. Right now the clinking sound of silverware was all that could be heart. I was like no one here knew what to say to each other
I glanced sideways to find Aiden perfectly content with the heavy ensuing silence. He was the most unbothered person at this dinner table other than Gia who sat beside me playing with her greens.
“So, hone’s work?” It was Presion who finally decided to break that silence, I realized he was asking that to Erica
She put down her glass of wine to answer him “It’s good. It’s exhausting, especially with the upcoming acquisition. Fin a litle sleep deprived but it’s good.”
“Well, you are a hard worker Mr. Kisight sounded genuinely appreciative of her
“Hear that, Aiden?” She mised a brow at him playfully.
His lips twitched with the slightest amusement. “I never said you weren’t good.”
“You never acknowledge in either,”
1 sufled a sigh of irritation. And I didn’t seem to be the only one ammoyed by this banter or whatever it was, Cilian stabbed his beans with a little too force, glaring at his brother. Whit. That means—
