Chapter 44
FRIYA
Sometime soon I hope?” That question from Preston stopped every movement at the table. It was directed at Aiden and Krica.
He looked between the two of them. “Hasn’t be
se proposed yet?”
1ch like I heard something break. Probably my delusions. Assuming that there was something between Aiden and Erica was one thing. Having that confirmed was a whole different level of heartbreak
Fuck, no! After everything that I had faced, feeling heartbroken over something this trivial felt lame.
Only this didn’t feel trivial. It felt like so much more. All those glances, all that tension, those moments, had I just made them up? Was he just being nice and 1 had misread his gooduris, his kaul actions to be something they weren’t?
1 sirely couldn’t be that delusional. The number of times I had found him staring at me, I could swear he was attracted-
Erica chuckled, uncomfortably. “Married! Oh no
“Oh don’t start with work is keeping us banxy‘ and ‘we are not thinking about it right now‘ excuses. I don’t want to hear all thur. You and Aiden need to get married soon.
“Father” Aiden gritted out what seemed like a warning.
“Will you marry her, Daddy?” Gia’s voice had everyone’s attention. She was peering up at her father will furrowed brows and downturned lips.
“No sweetheart.” Aiden was visibly distressed as he tried to reassure her,
“Of course he will: Preston interrupted almost immediately which didn’t go down well with Aiden. He fixed him with one of the iciest stares ever. His father squared his shoulders. You’ve been pushing it for a long time?
“Tushing it! I never said we were getting married Aiden hissed.
“Oh everyone knows that you two are together. Besides I gave my wond to James”
Everyone knows you two are together.
Except me I guess. Jesus! I was feeling sick. It was taking a lot from me to not bolt straight out of these doors with Gia
“You gave your word to my father? Erica sounded stunned at the piece of information. That surprise turned into something close to anger. Her words however went unheard as Preston went on with his monologue.
“And now what? Everything goes up in flames because you have a child with this woman?” Indignation rose in me at the way he glanced our way. He said it like I was the dirt on his shoes
That’s it. We’re leaving.” Aiden declared as he pushed himself off the chair. As if just on cue Chris walked in. He had probably shot him a text
Aiden grabbed Cia out of her chair and placed her in front of him. She stared up at him with those big brown sad eyes. He gently touched her check with his fingers. “Chris will take you to the car, Go on sweetheart. We’re right behind you”
She left with lum and I was actually glad. She was getting upset by the second as talks of her father’s potential wedding was going on. Also Preston Knight wasn’t a very pleasant man to be around 1 could understand to some extent why Alden dadn’t want anything to do with this dinner.
Oner Gu was out of the doors, Andris turned towards his father and looked him dead in the eyes. “Next time you’re disrespectful towards her or my Laughter, you won’t like the consequences.”
“Auden” His father was red in the face as he bellowed.
“Den’t raise your voice at me?” The bit onu “You forget I don’t take orders from you.”
His father tumed redder with anger if that was possible. He spared a disgusted glance at one. “That might be precisely why you’re in this situation,
ath the consequences of your sparstionable choices?
Barbara gasped “Piron, pleair

“Don’t say a word.” He jeered at his wife. “That granddaughter you were so intent on meeting – a mistake, that’s what she is!”
I blinked, dumbfounded that he was crude enough to call my daughter a mistake in front of her parents.
“Dad! Stop talking” Gillian snapped at the disgusting excuse of a man.
“Sorry. did you just call my daughter a mistake?” I’m sure incredulity bled through my words as I stood up. In fact I did make a mistake and that was convincing Aiden for this dinner. This was a mistake of massive proportions.
Presion scoffed. “Isn’t she? She’s the mistake that let a gold digger like you crawl into his life. Now you sit there-
“Enough” Aiden’s voice boomed through the hall as his palm came down on the table with a force enough to rattle the tableware. I have seen him angry before. He gets colder, his replies stoic and icter if possible. But the look in his eyes was unlike any other time. It was unhinged, the promise of grave danger burning strong in them.
He bent down till he was in his father’s face. The latter visibly shrunk back in his seat and it was explainable. Aiden was glaring at his father like he was step away from tearing him apart limb to limb,
“You know why I haven’t yet reached in and tom your tongue out with my bare hands? Because even the thought of touching you disgusts me.” He spat out. “But you keep it up and I will kill you
The threat rang out loud and clear throughout the room. Whatever Preston saw in his son’s eyes warned him off because he didn’t retort. Just a disgruntling exhale. Aiden straightened, still staring him down. He placed his hand at my back.
“Come on.”
About time. I was so fucking ready to get our of this place and never look back. We had hardly even taken a step when Barbara blocked our way.
“Aiden, please!” She looked at her son with pleading eyes while he stood there with an impassive stare. By the ice in his look, it wasn’t hard to tell that Aiden wouldn’t have good things to say to her.
“Listen to me very carefully, I came here today not because of you and definitely not because of that pathetic excuse of your husband. I was here because of Cillian. But my goodwill ends here. You are as dead to my daughter as you are to me.”
Wow! That was harsh, way too harsh than what Barbara deserved. She seemed like a genuinely nice lady, nothing like her husband. Before I could ponder if that was a misplaced projection, I was being guided out through those doors by Aiden..
